How do i keep my 22 month old in her room at night?

honestly I have found that the questions about most behavior/ sleeping/ eating problems have the same answer: your child has too many options. To raise independent sleepers, they have to be on their own; independent! giving them options on where they want to sleep is a no-no because in their brain they now have that option all the time. they do not understand circcumstantial events... or one time things, yet. Consistency is key.

WE JUS PUT A GATE UP AND SHE HASNT MANAGED TO TAKE IT DOWN. WE HAVE A BABY MONITOR IN THERE SO WHEN SHE WAKES UP CRYING WE GO LAY WITH HER TIL SHES BACK ASLEEP.

thank you for posting this Jennifer i'm have the same problem with my 22 month old. he is in a bed and wont sleep in it. He ends up sleeping with me. i'm glad im no the only one and i have read all the advice you wonderful moms have put. i will try it and see what happens.

Thank u ladies for ur suggestions... we actually got a better gate and it seems to be working... she is still waking up at night sometimes, BUT she cries for like 3 mins.. and then goes right back to her bed and falls asleep.. we were thinking that maybe she has been sleep-walking b/c she gives up sooo easily... has anyone experienced this??

well i would suggest try and do the same routine like tea, bath, read a book and then bed and see what happens sometimes to wear them out give them alot of activites during the day and then that way your child would be so warn out you child wont have the energy to get out of the room. and maybe a battery night light might also help good luck with everything i have been there already three times already lol

Put two gates at her door. I don't know if it will work, but I understand the sleeping on the floor thing. I am right there with you and my body hurts too. Good luck.

Well For One YOU MESSED UP BY LETTING HER STAY IN YOUR ROOM !

Now Try This:

* IF SHE GETS OUT HER ROOM & GOES TO YOUR ROOM TAKE HER BACK TAKE HER BACK DO NOT WHAT SO EVER LET HER STAY IN YOUR BED NO MATTER WHAT TIME IT IS.

* It May Take Some Time But Be Consistant With It

1:Put Your Daughter To Bed & Give Her Hugs & Kisses & Say Goodnight (Or Whatever You Say To Her @ Night)
2. If She Gets Out Her Room & Goes To Your Room The 1st Time Say No Mam You Can't Sleep In Mommy's Bed You Have To Sleep In Your Bed & Take Her Back To Her Room & Put Her In Her Bed & Leave Out.
3: If She Gets Out Of Bed Again Take Her Back & Don't Say Anything At All To Her
4: If She Continues To Get Out Keep Putting Her Back In Her Bed
5: Eventually (But Like I Said It Takes Time It May Take 30 Minutes It May Take 4 Hours) BUT BE CONSISTANT & DON'T GIVE UP ! BECAUSE IF YOU DO IT WILL JUST GET WORSE ! ! ! !

I'M THANKFUL I DONT HAVE THIS TROUBLE WITH MY DAUGHTER ANYMORE IT ONLY LASTED HER BOUT 3 DAYS OF CLIMBING HER BABY GATE TO GET THE PICTURE MOMMY NOT GOING TO LET ME SLEEP WITH HER AT NIGHT.

i get those things that go on the door knobs and put it on the inside of my kids door it was more for my 3 year old (up until 3 nights ago she started night time potty training) Draco my 22 month old sleeps in a play pin still.

i havent got any suggestions but i do feel for you!!! lol my 22month old is exactly the same!!! but she has slept with us on and off since she was born some nights she will be in our bed all damn night and some nights she will spend all night in her own bed, and she has always slept in a bed no cot... cot freaked her out lol but yea all i learnt was not to do that again with my 2nd 1 lol good luck hope you get your own good night sleep soon!!! ... have you thought about if it is the light coming into her room... maybe she likes to sleep in the dark... my baby girl cant sleep in the light and my big girl has to sleep in the light...

We had that problem with my (now) 3 3/4 year old. We put a gate across his doorway. I see that your little one is very clever and has already worked out how to open it - all I can suggest is that you get a different gate, one she cannot open. Good luck!

Tie her to the crib! stick your finger in some booze and let her lick it off. Dad said just give Jessica her own martini...lol. The only reason to put her in a bed would be so she doesn't fall, but she will keep getting up. Why do you think she is waking up?
