issues moving to table food

I adopted my daughter from China and we have been home 3 months with her. She just turned 12 months Sunday. When we got her (at 8-1/2 months) she was supposedly eating some soft foods. She ate congee (rice porridge), oatmeal, fish, fruit, etc. when we were in China.

When we got home I started her on stage 2 (thick puree) jarred baby food and she was eating some melt-in-the-mouth type foods, gerber puffs, cake, bread, etc. She only has her 4 front teeth right now.

I have moved her to stage 3 (slightly chunky) jarred foods and have given her some stage 4 (the microwaveable 'graduates' foods with chunks in them). However... whenever I give her cooked diced carrots (which are easily mushed in the mouth) and canned green beans (also easily mushed in the mouth) she ends up throwing up all her food and then will throw up again when I give her her evening bottle. When I give her the stage 3 foods or even the stage 4 foods without the diced veggies she doesn't do this... only when I attempt to give her diced veggies. I have given her pasta salad, mashed potatoes, spaghetti, things like that and she does fine. One of the stage 4 foods is mashed sweet potatoes with diced carrots in it. She eats that with no problems.

At her 12 month appt the doctor told me to work on her pincer grasp and feeding herself. (she mashes in her fist any food other than dry cereal type snacks... but that's another issue) And to start giving her more table food. I can't do this if she keeps throwing up the things she can pick up and eat. She can't feed herself mashed potatoes! (or at least I am too scared to let her try)

Any suggestions?

It could be several things. A friends daughter is 3 yrs old and has an aversion (sp?) to peanuts. She can eat creamy peanut butter but anything with whole peanuts she will throw up. Even if there are other things mixed in with the same type of texture. She is unable to eat trail mix. Even if she doesn't see what she is putting into her mouth if she gets a peanut she will throw it up. Another thing I have found is that some kids just have a difficult time digesting certain types of food. My daughter just turned a year old last week and she was having trouble with several types of foods. Now that we have her on a probiotic she can eat anything. She is now eating whatever I prepare for supper. She still doesn't like to eat carrots or green beans but if I mix them with mashed potatoes or season them just right she will eat them without hesitation. Another friend of mine has a son who is autistic and he has a difficult time digesting any foods high in gluten so he takes enzymes that aid with digestion. As long as he takes his enzymes he is fine. I allow my daughter to feed herself cheerios, gold fish, crackers and fruit at snack times. Good Luck!

Your daughter is beautiful.. My son, Rain, has been a puker all along, with random things setting him off into a fit of projectile puking.. So, I feel your pain. In my experience, carrots and green beans are among the hardest things for him to eat, even when I've steamed them to death! He has trouble w some of the chunkier Gerber foods b/c of the mix of textures. We stick to one texture at a time, giving him at least one food to pick up and eat himself at each meal. Otherwise, he gets bored and smacks the spoon out of my hand. I make extra when I cook for myself and feed him that for the next day or two. He really prefers whatever it is that I'm eating. Just be patient. Every baby is different. She'll come around. =)

Im not sure really I can help but by the sounds of what she is eating she is doing well, you have to take into account what she came from? she just might not be ready yet shes had a huge change in life.

As for the foof what about grateing some foods like cheese? maybe grated carrots ? that works for my 1year old.

I would say she would be behind in some development areas and she will catch up but if they don't want to eat the food they tend to mush it up with there fingers

How about giving her a yohurt pot and spoon? even an clean empty 1 would be great and you could feed her whilse she trys herself, I do this with my son and hes starting to pick up on how its done still got a long way to go.

Personnally I don't use baby foods anyway but if shes eating them then use them for now and slowly reduce.
