Leaking through diapers at night

Kara - posted on 01/28/2009 ( 20 moms have responded )

Hello all!

My daughter is 7 and a half months old. Every night, she seems to be leaking completely through her diaper, her clothing, her sheets, and even the mattress pad under her sheet. She is around 18 pounds and wears a size 3 diaper (good for up to 26-28 lbs). Anyone have any ideas to help prevent this? She wears Huggies diapers currently. Thanks!

*She doesn't seem to mind this- she sleeps through it and we dont' realize it's happened until the next morning.

I recently found Pampers Extra Protection. I think it's a new diaper they just came out with and they are meant especially for overnight use (or travel). My son used to leak through his diapers at night all the time but hasn't leaked through these yet.

I also found huggies the worst diapers for leaks. I used costco brand and they work well for me.

We had the same problem with huggies nappies and also found that they left a sort of crystally stuff on my son, we have found the best nappies for our son are just the supermarkets homebrand ones :-)

I use Huggies Overnights at night. They've worked great for the last 6 months. Not one leak!

They sell extra padding on line for diapers. They are just like a pad. You put them in the diaper and it allows it to hold more. They are much cheaper them a pack of diapers. I don' remeber the name, but I found them online.

We use the Wal-mart brand of diapers. While I like Pampers, I can't justify spending so much. The Parent's Choice ones feel exactly the same and keep him dry and leak-free. We also use one size up at night.

All I can suggest is one... maybe change her to pampers they seem to work better when it comes to holding a lot of liquid and second before you go to bed check on her if you see that her dipper is semi full or just a bit wet then change it just so that she has a fresh one, and that should prevent the majority of it.

wow...it's amazing how every baby is different because huggies have been the best for my little girl. they're's no harm in trying a variety of different nappies until you find one that is best for your little bub. It can get expensive trying different ones but in the end, they still get used up either way during the day when you change him/her more regularly. Good luck!!!!!! xo

Same thing happened to my son at that age and now my daughter. Have you tried the Huggies Overnite diapers? Haven't had any leaks with either of my children since we started using them.

I have to agree with going with Pampers! We tried Huggies and ended up with many leaks and accidents! We've had no problems with Pampers Baby Dry and they fit great on my little girl too! :P

I used to use huggies comfi-fit or what have you. I switched to the snug and dry and it helps keep him much dryer. I also feed a larger dinner and a smaller bottle at dinner time- that way he had less liquid right before bed.

I would suggest using Pampers. Does she get up during the night to feed?  If so, I would suggest changing her then.

I also gave up on huggies and stick to pampers baby dry. And I've heard also trying the next size up at night.

I don't like Huggies either... We use Pampers Baby Dry and have had great luck! At night though we put a diaper 1 size bigger on him. He still leaks through a little sometimes but not as bad as your describing! I always had bad luck with the huggies leaking on a regular basis. I found that when he wet them, they would just get hard whereas the pampers don't. And forget about poo! Huggies never kept that in! Maybe it's just a boy thing...

Hope that helps!
