My son has 2 teeth, can I give him any whole solids to eat, like a peice of apple or carrot? What about choking?

Ty is my first child and I worry alot about doing the wrong thing. I would love to give him actual food to eat a meal times instead of baby mush but am afraid of him choking or pushing him to early. Any idea's or advice for a nervous mom?

Raw apple and carrot is an absolute no no for a baby!

Goodness me, why are you trying to rush his eating? There are plenty of websites that go through the Stage 1, Stage 2 foods.
He can still eat "real" food - you just need to prepare it appropriately for his stage of development. You certainly don't have to buy baby mush.

6 months - pureed foods
7 - 9 months - mashed lumpy soft foods
9 - 12 months - finger foods
12 months + - family foods

No hard lumps, raw vegetables, hard raw fruit or nuts, popcorn, grapes, lollies, sultanas etc. These can cause choking in the first 5 years.

I got these things called Nuby (at least that is what is on the handle) that have a handle at one end and a net on the other. You fill the net with fruit and harder things and they can mump on them :) my little man LOVES it. It's great because there is no chance of him choking on it. I also feed him mum mums a rice cracker but I watch him while he eats those.

My daughter is 7 months 1 week and she has 8 teeth already - it's pretty wild! She loves chomping into a ripe banana, but I have to keep a close eye that she doesn't take too much. She has a lot of teeth but she doesn't really know how to chew yet, so a big chunk of banana can be a choking hazard even though it's a soft food.

Hi. I'm in the same boat w/ my 1st son and being cautious w/ what I feed him...he's 7 mo old and got his 1st 2 teeth a few wks ago (front bottom 2...so cute!), sitting/ crawling/very good eater w/ the mushy stuff... I tried those 'puffs' a couple times... He loves putting everything else in his mouth, but for some reason, didn't take much interest in that... So then I fed him a couple (1 at a time, of coarse) and he did OK, but then kind of coughed a bit, so that freaked me out. I read a previous post about breaking up the puffs, so maybe I'll try that and see what happens.. So I guess I'd recommend just starting w/ the soft stuff , things that can dissolve, and very small pieces b/c they don't really know what those new teeth are for yet. good luck and have fun!

My little girl is 7mo and has no teeth with no signs of any coming soon.  My ped. said I could start finger foods.  I started with rice puffs since they dissolve.  I broke them into pieces at first then worked up to whole ones.  She refuses to eat stage 3 foods and is starting to dislike stage 1&2 foods as well.  She chews the puffs well with her gums so I have started feeding her the Gerber diced carrots and apples and she does fine.  So when we have something she can have I pinch off tiny pieces for her and she likes it.  She has had grapes(tiny pieces not whole), chicken, green beans, ground beef, ground turkey, and noodles so far.

Apples and carrots are probably too tough right now. I would stick w/ stuff that w/ a little sucking and knawing will dissolve,  my daughter likes biscuits and she loves grilled cheese! Just always watch em!

Hi my son is Harry is 7months old and has 4 teeth, we started giving him lumpy food and he kept gipping at first but we stuck to it and now he eats it, i try and make dinners myself and just mash them up, Harry loves baby rusks and peg biscuits,we also dip his rusks into yogut so he gets different tast's. He eats finger food like toast he sucks on it to make it soft then chuws on it. He also like's shoes!! lol

is Ty mouthing toys yet?  Is he popping up on hands and knees?  these are 2 things that will tell you if it is time to give some other more solid foods.  At that, first try long stick like foods that he won't be able to get a piece off of such as a celery stick or carrot stick.  This is for oral exploration only and then maybe try the gerber puffs, avacado slices (very ripened) or bananas.  These dissolve easliy in the mouth but are solid enough for baby to pick up and start finger foods.  Good Luck

my lil guy is 7 months old he has no teeth but i found a simple sandwich, his gums are quite hard so he can bite a piece of biscuit off so i changed to a sandwich so he didnt choke, but as for appe and carrot anything that hard at the moment isnt such a good idea because they can easily choke id try putting little pieces of soft chopped fruit in a bowl like banana because these get pretty mushed up when they chew them

My daughter has two teeth as well and although it would be nice for her to be able to help herself to some food I don't think she is ready for it! I did however give her a rice cracker today and these one's disolve in their mouths! She loved it and did really well, I just watched her very closely...Maybe you would feel comfortable trying something like that, or puffed wheat...something that can dissolve! I wouldn't give your little guy something hard like carrot or apple though, he wouldn't be able to chew it and that would hurt her if she swallowed it and I wouldn't want to risk her chocking!

Good luck!
