Ok, we can either start our kids in school the fall after they turn 5 and they would be the young ones, or keep them home another year? Tough call!

Ah Maria I can see where you are coming from then! Your little baby starting school, it will feel very quiet for you during the days, but maybe you could start a new hobby or something while all your children are at school? Or you could have a 6th child? ;)

Completely understand you wanting to keep him at home though I think starting school will be such an exciting time for them! In Ireland i think it goes by their birthdays if they fall in the first half of the year or the later 6 months and when they do turn 5. If my daughters birthday was in Nov or Dec she would be starting school when she will be 4 but because its in June she will be starting when shes 5 and 2 months. Im sure he will love it and just think of all the exciting news he will be sharing with you and rushing home to tell you at the end of everyday

Thank you! Yes they do catch up fast, he is just my last of 5, I am selfish, I want to have him home with me as long as I can!

I don't think we can do that in the UK. My youngest will have to start school full time in September 2012 - having just turned 4 in June 2012. I think we can defer a term, ie I can start him in the January 2013, but I don't think I will as the beginning of school is when they start to form their friend groups and learn routines together etc. It will be tough on them, but they all catch up eventually.
