My daughter was born June 19th and she seems to be ready to potty train. She went from telling me "pee-pee" or "poo-poo" after she went to telling me while she is going. We almost made it to the potty today but it's hard for me to sit her on the "big" potty because I dont have one for her yet. I was thinking about getting one with a step stool that attached to the "big" potty with a smaller potty inside. Anyone already have one? Do you think that would be a good potty to start with? I'm an unemployed single mother so I want to make sure I get the best one for the dollar! Thanks!

Its different with every kid! You have to learn what works and stick to it. Thats the best advice I can give you. Do not budge. I have 2 kids, this is my first girl though and I'm still learning.

Thank you ladies for your feedback! Today she said "poo-poo, potty" and ran to the bathroom and lifted the toilet seat but she was done by that time.....Any other suggestions on techniques for potty training as well? I'm a first time parent also a single mother so I don't quite know how to start. She has a elmo dvd that we watch together and she learns from us interacting with that but I just feel like I don't even know where to begin!

I bought my daughter a potty, and thats only because I have a little boy that has problems with lifting the seat and I don't want her sitting in his peepee. eew! she has been pee peeing in the potty for a few weeks now, but I think that she thinks it is play time, not potty time. I have heard from other mothers that the best thing to get is the over the top potty seat (the small one that fits ont he top of your toilet) This causes less confusion with potty/play time. I think that we are going to take a break for about a month. I don't think my girl is quiet ready to be potty training. You can get really cheap potties at Walmart. They have the on the floor ones here for about 13-15$ and the potty toppers for about the same price (most of the floor potties you can take the seat off and place on the top of your toilet- I would suggest getting on of those to see which works best for your lil one!) Good Luck!!!

Hello Cassandra!

Absolutely it is a great idea and yes I have one for my daughter, I started her in the little pot (with removable top) when she was 12months. She is now 18months and also tells me when she has to go and I started attaching the potty top to the big seat which is more convenient and easier for me and she feels like a big girl!

Absolutely get your little princess a potty top to connect and my daughter also has a lil step stool (to aid in the "I'm a big girl now") and I help her turn and pick her up on the potty. So go for it Mom!!!!
