Refusing formula/bottle

tea?  haha seriously?!  Vicky you MUST be English ;)  hee hee  That's hilarious!  Yeah, my daughter actually drinks her share of water and pees regularily, so you're right, I shouldn't worry.  After reading the post above about her needing 24oz I just about fell off my chair!  She might get 6-8oz a day!  But she does eat quite a bit, so I might feed her a little less solids so that come "snack" time she will take more from her bottle.  Thanks so much for everyone's helpful advice!

cerys, did for a while when she was ill, i found giving her smaller, feeds more often. but having spoke to a doctor a little while ago. she said, as long as they have about half a pint of either breast milk or formula, not too worry too much, as long as they are still taking liquids, and are still weeing reguarly, try not to worry too much. and i started to give my children cows milk at 12 months, but they were having the odd cup of tea with some cows milk in from about nine months.

Hi Jennifer..

I am having the same problem with my daughter. She actually quit taking her bottle on her 8 month birthday and was doing really well taking formula from her sippy. Well, a few days ago she just started not wanting it anymore..the formula not her sippy. My husband talked me into getting her bottles back out which worked for like a day. I talked to the ped nurse and she said she needs at least 24oz..which she is no where near. The nurse told me to cut back on everything else and offer her the formula off and on all day. Well, I feel like I am starving her now...I just don't know what to do. She is a very healthy, active, happy baby and I don't want that to change..

My daughter is very similar.  I am breast feeding her and she has been biting me a lot lately. I talked to my mom about it and she said that at this age they just might be weaning themselves. My daughter is all about doing things on her time so I am not surprised! :)  I add formula to her cereal and mix some formula and offer it in her sippy cup and I still try to nurse her 3 times a day. I hope this schedule will hold 3 more months!

The information I've read says the need the DHA & ARA (etc..) found in formula & breastmilk, until 12 months. That literature is usually trying to stress why NOT to switch to cow's milk earlier than 12 months. Anyway, if she's still eating baby cereals, try to mix her formula in with that, or with her other foods so she gets the nutrients she needs (IF she's still not taking her bottle). You also might just try giving the formula in a sippy cup instead. Good Luck!! I hope you find something that works.
