I made a banana cake for Alfie's first birthday, with butterscotch whip, banana slices and fresh cream. It went down a treat! People said it was like banoffee cake! I call it BanAlfie-Pie. :D

my baby's 1st birthday was yesterday and i made her a nice little brownie with 1 candle. she immediately spat it out and refused to have anymore. we still got the nice bday pix and I'm kind of happy she refused all that sugar and chocolate and preferred her watermelon and peaches. when we have a bday party for her this weekend I'll just make a cake for the guests and give her some watermelon instead. it really isn't a problem..

I didn't want to give my son all that sugar for his birthday which was yesterday. So we gave him a huge juicy slice of watermelon. He was in HEAVEN!!!! He ate, smash, mushed and played with his melon. He had so much fun.

My daughter threw her piece of cake across the room at her first birthday party! She was surrounded by well-intentioned, camera-toting relatives and it was just too much pressure for her. Everyone thought it was pretty funny and I can laugh about it, but I did feel for her at the time. And you know, even with the best laid plans, children surprise us, so I wouldn't worry too much about your child not liking cake/frosting now. Maybe she will change her mind in time for the party! Many kids grow into the idea of liking a food after they are offered it a few times....

i agree with Krystle... yes you might miss out on doing cute baby covered in cake photos... but its not a big issue.

have a cake, light candles, sing happy birthday and take your photos then.

let the adults eat the cake!

My son's bday part is this weekend, I'm making a cake for me and the guests (our family member's) but I'm not going to give him any. I'm going to eat his piece! :)

Maybe a cookie? or a muffin...it doesn't have to be cake. my daughter really likes ice cream, she makes a funny face because its cold, but then she wants more. lol

My first son hates cakes for his 1st birthday as well. We tried building cornflakes cupcakes as he only likes cornflakes, what we did is we bought cupcakes with icing on top and sprinkled it with cornflakes. He blew his first candle on the cupcakes instead and enjoyed the cupcakes after!

What about a birthday cream pie??? does she like pudding?? It has the same texture as some babyfood and it can be just as messy and fun as a cake. Some people just dont like cake. My husbands best friend has never liked cake... his mom told us stories about when she would try to do cake when he was little and he would get so mad! and then on his 4th birthday she made him a berry pie and he was very happy.. so that is what he has had for his birthday ever since. They even had pie instead of wedding cake.
