My little one is a little younger than yours, but she is still tiny. She is 11 months and weighs 12 lbs. She is strictly breastfed w/ solids and eats just fine. Happy, healthy, active, and meeting all her milestones. Pediatrician is not concerned as long as she is showing consistent growth.

My daugher is 17months old and weighs 17 lbs. She has a healthy appetite and gets her vitamins. Her pediatrician is not concerned because despite her weight she is healthy. My daughter can still fit in her 6-9 mos clothes.

My son is 16 months old and is 20 lbs 9 oz and is a little over 30 inches long. The doctor says he is too small so we have added pediasure to his diet, but he is healthy, and I'm not too worried since I was small as a baby/child and so was my husband, jy brother and my brother in law. Personally I think that the doctors go by charts too often. Just like adults - children are all different and go through growth spurts at different times.

My daughter is almost 17 months old and is 30 inches and 21 lbs 10 oz. That puts her in the 25th percentile for both weight and height her doctor has stated that she's just petite...What's really funny though is that her head is in the 90th percentile. From what I'm told as long as they're growing on their curve there's not a huge problem.

Definitely. My daughter was only 17 pounds up until recently. I believe she's up to 18 or 19 at this point. She eats like a horse, she's just from a small family in stature.

My little guy is 17lbs 12oz... He eats all day long but prefers veggies over everything else. He's also very active. Our ped had said that as long as he is getting longer and his head is getting bigger it's okay. Some babies are just smaller than others... As long as his weight isn't affecting his development it's not really that big if a deal.

These people all have girls!! My son is 18lbs at 15.5 months. Just like his brother they take after their father. I wasn't concerned about it but the Dr. wanted to do tests anyway. When they came back normal he said he was no longer concerned, thats just the way he is! If you aren't worried, and he acts normal- don't sweat it. Their bodies are planned out
before birth and there is nothing we can do about it!

I doubt there is anything to worry about. There are a lot of alarmist's out there in the medical field. If he's happy, eating, sleeping and developing normal, there probably is nothing wrong. I have never really worried about any of my babies weights because I can see that they are fine.

Wow guess my son is just big cause at his 12 month check up which was 3 months ago he was 25 lbs and 31 in long. He got height from his daddy tho. He isn't fat either he is just right he is just gonna be really tall. His doctor did say though that if he was shorter than his weight would be an issue.

My daughter is 15 months and also weighs only 17lbs, she had always been very small so the doctors are not worried. She's consistently gained close to 1lb every month, she was 5 weeks early though and weighed 4lbs

My Daughter is almost 16 months and only 18 pounds. We ended up taking her for blood work and it came back fine. She eat really well and is really active. The doctors are keeping an eye on her but we think it is genetics.

Alyce made a great point - doctors get their numbers from averages, which is why we go by the percentile method. This is not a very acurate method because of the major issues with childhood obesity (I know some people think it isn't a problem at this age, but it is where it starts), which skews the numbers. Years ago, your child probably would have been completely average. IMO, it's better to be in a smaller percentile as long as they are healthy otherwise.

My kids are skinny minnies, i've never been able to keep weight on mself so they must get it from me. My 1st daughter is only 2 kgs heavier than my second where there is 16 months difference and 5 kgs smaller than her niece who is a month older. I'm not too bothered, they're happy and they eat and drink healthy and still have plenty of energy. Try it not to let it bother you, some kids are just small and remember hospitals go on averages and text books A LOT of the time, so they can be wrong and over cautious about heaps of things and not necessarily right :)

Well, that is pretty small, but as long as he's gaining weight and height at his own rate, he's probably just built small, no problems. My guy is small too, 20 lbs 9oz and 31 in (tall and skinny), but he's just built like me. He had problems with gaining weight when he was younger, but that was a breastmilk issue. Now, he's just very active, and burns off calories as quick as he takes them in, lol.

My daughter is 19lbs and 29 inches. Her doctor was a little concerned at 12 months because she had sort of hit a plateau and had barely gained any weight or length since 9months; however, she hit a bit of a growth spurt and grew 2 inches and gained a little over 2 lbs between 12 and 15 months. Her doctor is no longer concerned.

My son was 20 lbs and 29 inches tall at his last appointment. It freaked me out at first but i see that he eats fine and has energy all day. I think your kid should be fine.

my daughter is also petite and more than one person has tried to get us worried about it but she eats a lot, really all the time - great big meals and in between snacks - and still she's really small. in all her check ups so far she's been steady with her growth percentile and honestly the only time she doesn't eat is when she sleeps or is GF ill. so i wouldn't worry if i were you i'd just make sure his diet is good and that he eats good meals and make sure he carries on being a happy little person. good luck.

At her 15 month check up my daughter was 19 pounds (4th percentile) and 28 1/4 inches (5th percentile). Her doc said she is proportionate for her size and she is growing steadily so she is not concerned. She did have some problems with constipation for a while so she underwent some tests to see if her size and her intestinal issues were related but they are not. She's just petite. Someone has to be in the 5th percentile!

my baby girl is 15months to- she weighed 17lbs 2oz two weeks ago when we went to the dr. she is tiny and has been for awhile but this visit she just got back onto the weight chart- yeah! The dr is not too concerned as she is a very healthy little girl and the dr sees nothing wrong with her at all. I full believe some people are just smaller than most and your son and my daughter may be some of those kids. However it is important to see if there is any real cause to the problem though. Also girls do tend to be smaller than boys so your son is probably lower on the percentiles than my daughter- she is now in the 1st percenttile and back on the chart. Does he eat? My daughter is very picky and does not eat a lot. But you cannot force a child to eat, especially one (like my daughter) who will fight against eating even more if you try to push her!!

My daughter eats like a horse and is healthy. I have no concerns and think it is cute she is so petite. My first daughter was the same. Both were 4 weeks prem and always been small. Jessica is 15mths and 75cm ( 29') tall, and weight 10kg ( 20lb). She still wears 9-12mth clothes and 3-6mth shoes.

I have a 15 months old that weights 19 pounds and he is 32 1/2 inches tall. He is on soy milk but I increase the calorie intake with cereal or ovaltine. He has been having doctors appointments every month for the past 10 montht of his life and has been gaining weight in every single one, not much but gaining, so the doctors are not as concerned anymore. My husband was a tiny baby also and so they think he is just a high energetic with a high metabolism baby.. Don't worry they will gain the weight when they need it, as long as they are healthy I don't think it should be much of a worry.

My daughter is 15 months..she will be 16 months on the 4th of October..she's only 18 lbs. When she was a year old they tested her for anemia. It was negative. She was on soy milk (Isomil). I figured that because soy milk isn't as fattening as milk based formula, she just wasn't gaining weight. Still, since she has been on table food, not much weight gain. The only conclusion I can come to is that she just has a high metabolism. She's extremely energetic so that makes sense. She's really smart and did a lot of things before time so the doctor isn't concerned. Some babies are just small..or petite as I like to call her lol. =)

I have a skinny baby. No matter how much I try to feed him he seems to burn it right off. I thought babies were supposed to have rolls of fat on them. My pediatrician said this is the age where most babies thin out. I think your child is fine and he will pick up the pace in his own time. My son is 21 lbs and 32 1/2 inches tall.

My daughter is small too. She just had her 15 month checkup and is 27 inches and 20.8 lbs. Dr is not concerned because she is actually a little heavy for her height. How tall is your son?
