I had a period just before my six week check up and then was put on contraceptive which I took for three months, been off it since november, but since that initial period I have not menstrated again, was just wondering if anyone else is in this situation, is it normal, will they start again once I wean my son at 1 years old? I would like to try for another one when he is one as I am 39 and I intend to stay home with them God willing till the start pre K. I also have put on a lot of weight and I am scared this is affecting my period also. I really don't want to be pregnant after 40. Help and do you think its worth going to see my gyn for?

I have been breastfeeding my son for 11months and about a month ago cut down to 1 to 2 breastfeedings a day... I am finally having my first real cycle... I would have light flows periodically but this one is the real deal! Oh you don't have to have a period to get pregnant just ovulating.. Good Luck

Thank you Jessica, I guess i will be patient, I plan to start weaning my son next month (when he turns 11 months) so that he will be fully weaned at one years old. If i don't start my period then I will go to the doctors.

Of course everyone is different, but...I had a couple of days maybe around the time James was about 6 mos old, if I remember correctly, when I bled lightly for one day, then nothing. That happened a couple of times, then about 2 months ago, I was having really bad pains in my lower abdomen, almost like my insides were burning! (Not appendicitis-although, I did get that a month after delivering!) Also was having lower back pain. That went on for a few days, so I went to the Dr., they tested for PID and bladder infection, but everything came back normal, though they said there was a little blood in my urine. Within the next month (last month), I started a full-on regular menstrual cycle, and have had a regular cycle this month too. I assume that the symptoms I was having was just my body getting ready to get back into the swing of things. I have nursed James since Day 1. So, I went 10 mos. and then started my cycle again, even though I am still nursing him. But they say that you can still ovulate while nursing and not have a cycle...have you tried using those at-home ovulation kits? I don't think going to the ob-gyn would be necessary unless your cycle doesn't begin again after your baby weans. (Of course, I am no expert!)

About the period before the 6 week checkup, that happened to me; but my ob-gyn said it wasn't an actual period, that is was normal to still be bleeding from post-delivery. I had stopped bleeding with 3-4 weeks after delivery, then started again pretty heavy for about a week, almost like a period! Hope this helps!
