My daughter can eat level 3 foods if they are plain vegis or fruit but not mixed dinners with chunky pieces in them. Those disolvable puffs she even chokes on:( Her gag reflex seems to be on overdrive, once she gags or chokes on something, she throws the rest up that she has already eaten:(

My 9 1/2 month old daughter is exactly the same, Stage 3 foods make her gag and throw up, same with the puffs. Sometimes if I wet a puff and it starts dissolving before it hits her mouth than she can eat it but even then she doesn't try chew it, she just waits till it dissolves. She's got 8 teeth but doesn't know how to use them. Her doctor isn't worried, says all kids are different. My mom says me and my brothers didn't eat chunkier foods till after we were a year old but I guess 30 years ago babies weren't expected to grow up so fast. Anyways, her doctor says she might just have to skip stage 3 baby food and move straight to finger foods when she's ready. But I think she's cutting her first molars which might help too.

My son is 9 months old and still only eats stage 1 or beginner foods. He also chokes on the gerber puffs. They do say they're intended for babies age 1 and up so I guess that's why. I think my ODS was eating cheerios at 9 months so each kid is different.

My 9 month-old will not eat anything made for baby. She eats what we eat. She never did take to the baby food. She ate the carrots for about a week and would not eat it anymore. If it's not what we're eating she wants nothing to do with it.

My daughter won't let me feed her. So no, we can't get to stage 3. She is 9 months old and she insists on feeding herself and clamps up when a spoon comes her way. So, its finger foods for her. And half of it ends up on the floor anyway. Don't think baby food is for her.

My daughter doesn't eat baby food anymore. She just does not take to well to it anymore. She pushes it away. I asked the doctor about it, and she said its fine. So I try to feed her finger foods, and she still hardly eats she just want her formula. I guess its because she is cutting teeth. She eats when she is hungry though.

Roanan is my 5th and we just skipped baby food all together with him! He did much better with the table food vrs the baby food so we just put the food he can't chew in a little food processer(the kind that holds like a cup of food) and he does just fine!

At 9 mos my son was sometimes gagging on puffs, too, and wouldn't have been able to eat the stage 3 foods. Now, just 3 weeks later, he is eating puffs, cheerios, and even cheese. Of course check in with your dr since you are having your appt anyway, but I really wouldn't worry about it. He'll get there!

My daughter will be 9 months on the 30th and she is no where near ready to eat stage 3. It still takes me 1 or 2 days to feed her a stage 2 jar with her cereal. But, she is breastfed and is very picky about food that she will eat. She also gags on the Graduate puffs, but if I break them in half she does alright but still doesn't try to chew them. She just broke through her 3rd tooth and I got her a fresh food feeder made by Munchkin where you can put fruits or veggies and they can chew or gnaw all they want and it doesn't allow big pieces through so I doubt I will really do stage 3 foods. I think once she gets the hang of that and tries to self feed I will just start feeding her table food.

My son has the worst gag reflex as well. The pureed stuff is all he will touch and some level two. I tried the finger foods the other day, he gagged up everything, including the milk he just drank, when he put a piece of mushy carrot in his mouth. I tried again with peas yesterday with the same result. I've told his doctor how sensitive the reflex is and she didn't seem worried. I think maybe I need to try it more so he will get used to it and be prepared for this to be an occasional problem. The little poofs on teh other hand, the tiny ones Gerber makes with faint apple flavoring, he loves and doesn't gag.

My son ate a couple jars of the 3rd foods at 9 months but decided he likes to self feed himself and now he won't let me spoon feed him at all. My daughter (2 in june) wouldn't eat the puffs or self feed until she was 1 yr old. All kids are different

my little duders has 8 teeth right now.. but he is still on stage 2. He loves puffs and adult food. I share what ever i am eating with him. I make sure it wont choke him. He loves to eat whole bananas, the other morning he ate half of one. I think the 3rd stage foods are the same as the 2nd... just not as purreed. But, every baby is differnt. If you are concerned then talk to your doctor. Remeber there are crazier moms out there, don't be afraid.

I refuse to feed my daughter stuff from a jar and she has been eating everything we eat since about 6.5 months, now 9 months. When she first started on solids i gave her fruit and vegetable mashed with a fork or potato masher. Now she eats meats, cut into hand size pieces for her to chew on, (only has 2 teeth) all her fruits and vegetables, pasta's. basically what ever we are eating as long at is it healthy, she eats it too.

How often have you tried giving her the stage 3 meals? The only reason why I ask this is the first 3 or 4 attempts for my son eating the casseroles made him gag quite a bit. I ended up blending in his fave veg and mashed the chunky stuff down a bit as well. That helped my son transition to eating the chunks better.

My little guys does not have any teeth yet (my daughter didn't get her's until 9 mths) and he is almost 10 months (April 8), he cannot eat the Stage 3 either. I have started mixing a little of the Stage 3 with the Stage 2, just so it is not as thick, but he still gets chunks (peas, etc) and that has helped immensly! We have also started with pasta noodles, cheese, scrambled eggs, anything that has texture but is easy to swallow. Hope this helps!

We haven't done stage three, and to be honest I don't know if I will. We started finger foods a couple seeks ago (about 8 months and a week). He now does pretty well with them. When I started out I would only give him half a puff or cheerio. Once he was doing fine with that I started giving him the whole thing. He is now doing diced steamed veggies, banana, and avocado. But it was a slow start.

Thanks Amber! As for you and your daughter, you can always freeze or refridge them, put some of the jar in a bowl for her to eat and put the rest in the fridge or freezer. I know in an ice cube tray, each cube is 1 serving!

Hi, my daughter is 9 months old and she doesn't eat stage 3 either thats bcuz she is just now gettin to where she can eat a whole jar of stage 2 and i don't want to up her to 3 cuz i'm afraid that it will end up just wasting money cuz she won't eat the whole jar. She does it the disolvable puffs and has no problem. You might want to call the doctor and talk to them. I'm not sure what would make them start gagging now if they didn't do it. Good Luck!
