I wouldn't expect a child to start TALKING before 6months, they make SOUNDS tho, hell , if I take what sounds my son says as actual words, then he frequently says Mum mum mum , da........da , and bub bub bub ...however, I know that when they actually start properly talking, not just making sounds , it sounds a lot different .

Sorry , if I sound pessimistic, I know how eager some mums are to hear their child talk, especially the first kid ....

my baby started with mama first but has now since found Dada and now she cannot stop saying it. All day long it is dada unless she is tired, upset or hungry then it is mama. Always the way.

My little boy was 6 months on the 7th. He said a very clear dad back in september and has said mum and Nan. That being said, he hasn't sat up by himself yet...

Our daughter started to say hello when she was only 10.5 weeks old! She hurt her toe once, at about 12 weeks of age, and she kept repeating "ow, mom" over and over. Probably just coincidence or accidental, but I'd like to think she knows some words. She babbles to her toys all the time, and will throw some actual words in there. I talk to her ALL the time, and she watches my mouth very closely and tries to repeat what I say. She is 5.5 months old now. She also thinks the word "hi" is hilarious for some reason!

mine has been saying ma-ma, ma-ma a lot but i don't think she knows what it means.. i think it's more like 8 or 9 months when they know what they're saying (but i'm no expert).

i dont really think their words just yet but when she was crying the other day in her crib we oculd have sworn she said maaama but im not so sure it was intentional, but she will try to talk back to you if you look directly at her and say stuff she mimicks what ever we do with our mouth or tongue.

I heard they may say words by accident or may immitate your words but are not yet old enough to connect the word to its meaning. But that ok, its good for them to say it whether they know what it means or not.

Im not sure if my son does it intentionally but he'll say 'da da da'. He's about six months old. I like to think he is calling for his daddy though

I don't think so, but it sounds like he says "Hi" a lot, lol. Especially when I go to pick him up.

No Da-da but if we go "ha ha ha" he'll repeat back "Ha ha". I know it isn't clear but when we say "I love you" he respond back "aaagooo" that kinda sounds similar. It is fun how they start to pick up on things.

My baby girl can clearly say da-da while looking at her dad. No joke! And she says hi too. Clear as day. She has said it three times right after someone says hi to her. Its pretty cool.

I was told that most babes first worda is dad or something close to that because its easier to say then mom..but let me tell you, when my babe gets mad, fussy or sad I SWEAR he says momma over and over..i dont know what to think, but he really really does!!

My son does the exact same thing, and only when I am not holding him he does this.  Once I heard him clearly say dada but he hasn't done it again.  So we are back to mamamamamama!  lol

No, but I swear my daughter accidentally puts syllables together that actually form words. It's really freaky, because it's not even like you would think that it just kind of sounded like she said a specific word. It really sounded like it. She's said yes, where, and ok.

Too funny! Same thing for our daughter, she said a few things but the best was when my husband had some buddies over and one of them said 'hello' to her I swear she said it back clear as a bell! All the guys stopped what they were doing and looked at her! lol

My son is also 5 n a half months and he hasnt clearly said a word yet. My best friends daughter just started sayin mum & dada & she is 8months. Every child is different & i've been told that its also how much you work with him. I work with son Joelian every day, & i swear hes says yea all the time. He trys so hard to talk, he jibber jabbers all the time even to his tigger haha, but no clear works yet. This month has been exciting for me, i feel like he does something new every day, hopefully mum mum soon

I know for the longest my little girl sounds like she trying to imitate me when I asked her was she being funny or cute. I swear it sounded like she said cute.
I'll be glad when she learns to say mom because saying da da at 11:52 at night wasn't fun but I'm glad she is starting to talk.
