For some of you, your June 2009 baby isn't your first child. Any tips for taking a flight and then a long drive with a 5/6 month old? We are taking my daughter to see my family for Thanksgiving, so we're flying from Chicago to San Francisco, staying overnight, then driving for 4 hours. Thanks!

I took my oldest on a plane when she was 3 months and when she was 1 year. The second time was harder because she wanted to explore. The fist time we flew, I breastfed her on takeoff and landing, the same times that you probably would be chewing a piece of gum. If you aren't breastfeeding you could always try a bottle. I didn't have any trouble with the flight. I sat in the back where you could hear the engines and I think that worked out in my favor because of the whole white noise thing (& if you're baby does start getting fussy it'll be disguised a little). I don't advise the very last row because it tends to be a bit more cramped. Bring some distractions for baby. Aside from that, you might as well be sitting on your couch with your baby. I don't know if you plan on you're baby being on your lap or in a seat. I just held her for the ride. I don't know what to say about the car, Kaya always hated the car and I just had to wait that phase out (when she was 12+ months) Good Luck!

I flew alone with my baby when he was around 2 1/2 mo. He did fine...I breast fed him on the plane when he got fussy and he fell asleep. Driving...well, that might be harder. Been there too! If you can make frequent stops to just hold/play with him that might help. Or, maybe he'll sleep! :) It can be done it just might be tough!
