This is a follow on question from the conversation: 'what kind of schedule is your baby on'. I was just wondering how everyone is managing to not put their babies to bed till really late? If I haven't given Tommy his bath at 5:30pm, fed him some vegies and his bottle by 6pm and put him to bed by 6:30pm he is the crankiest baby ever! After he's in bed, i don't usually hear from him until 4:30am. I can't seem to get him to sleep past 4:30am though? How does everyone elses babies sleep in so late in the mornings? Maybe because they don't go to bed till later??? Please help! :-)

My daughter has 3 solid meals per day (they are quite small though). As for naps, she has 2 two to two and a half hour naps, so lack of naps really isn't her problem. I like the early bedtime; it's what works for us :)

well as long as it is working for you then that is all that matters, dont worry what anyone else thinks! :)

As for solids, for us we just started her on rice cereal this weekend and she loves it!

I do really like him going to bed by 6:30pm. It then gives me time to cook dinner, do the dishes, clean up a bit, have a shower etc etc. Him waking up at 4:30am is not too bad as we get to go for a walk with my husband before he has to leave for work...otherwise i'd have to go on my own. So that is nice :-) Thomas has never been very good at sleeping during the day unfortunately. I've now managed to get him to have 3 sleeps during the day, they range from 1/2 hour to 1 1/2 hours at a time. He doesnt seem to sleep for very long periods during the day. I think this is why he is extremely grumpy by 6pm! Thanks for responding guys. Do your babies eat solids at all yet?

I think it is all about routine. Does your baby nap in the day? That may help him stay up later so he will sleep in later. For me, my dtrs routine is usually wakes up around 9am, goes for nap 12 until about 3. Has hour or so nap around 5 and then back to bed at 8:00 pm. She has adjusted to the routine and is ready and willing to sleep when it is time now. It took time to get her to stick to this but now it works well.
Good luck!

My daughter goes to bed at 5.45 and wakes at 4.00 am for a feed. (Breast milk in a bottle as I express). Sleeping thru is not necessarily 12 hours. 10 hours at 5 months is regarded as sleeping thru so this really is nothing to worry about. After her 4 am feed she then sleeps thru til 6.15. I would not be able to put her to bed any later either as she too would be very cranky. Also I would not cope either. As a single mum who expresses her feed (nipple refusal) I get little sleep as it is (expressing takes such a long time), so early bed and earliy wake works well. I guess whatever works for you!!
