For the past week or so Jacelynn has been refusing to eat her baby foods. I usually feed her fruits for breakfast and veggies or a dinner for dinner. Now she won't eat them and wants a bottle or table food. She wants to chew everything now and she can't with the baby foods. She will gobble down table foods or the gerber graduates foods. I worry about her not getting the tastes of the seperate fruits and veggies. Since she won't eat the baby fruits there are only a few fresh fruits my dr said she can have because of the acid in it and making sure they are really ripe. What should I do? Is this ok? Is anyone else having trouble with their baby eating baby foods? Can I just give her table foods? Or keep trying to give her the baby foods??

a friend of mine suggested for my little one to make very thin biscuits, mix my chopped up veggies in the dough and bake it.

it is suppose to help them learn to feed themselves, and helps the teeth feel better coming in

Oh yeah, when Catelynn is cutting a tooth I ALWAYS know because she won't eat anything off a spoon. She will turn her head away. But she drinks her weight it seems in formula on those days. So I would say not eating baby food for that reason is probably pretty normal.

Thanks ladies. I have already been mixing them with cereal for months to make them thick and I guess she is now getting tired of that. I have been trying table food but she won't eat that either, well unless I give it to her off my finger. I think it's the spoon that is bothering her, I have tried every spoon available but she won't take it off. I think it is because she is getting her top teeth and the spoon or fork is irritating or hurting the gums.

Catelynn started doing the same thing, couldn't blame her. I started mixing in muesli or some of the chunkier cereals into the baby food. Worked like a charm! Just watch iron intake, as most of them are iron fortified. Too much and you get one constipated kid. :)

What is wrong with table food???

My son is 8mo old and thats all he eats. He had trouble with baby food cause it had no texture. I kept having to mix baby cereal with it to get it thick enough. So I just give him whatever we are having.

Her chewing is a good sign that she is ready to move on to other foods!

I make all of my babies food. I steam and mash the veggies cause he likes to chew. So far as veggies he is getting butternut squash, potatoes, LOTS of avacado, pumpkin, brocolli, carrots, corn, green beans, and onions.

fruits are already soft, you don't have to let them get over ripe.

I put them in the food processor and let it PULSE till it is the right consistency and as fruits go Jaxon has had banannas, blueberries, apples, strawberries, tomatoes, apricots, prunes, raisins, grapes, pears, honey dews, watermelons, and cherries.

Lemon Juice is acidic, but my dr said its perfectly fine to put a few drops per jar in the food (I portion all of his food into baby food size mason jars.) to keep the fruits from browning.

I also put a capsule of fish oil in all of his food for the DHA ARA and Omega - 3.

I have never given my daughter a jar of food at all. I have made everything fresh from day one. All her fruits and vegetable and now she has our food all the time. If we have something unhealthy for dinner i make her a heap of vegies. Otherwise what evere we are eating she eats. She feeds herself everything that she can hold. I have listed below what we started our daughter on and some of the things she eats with us.

For breakfast she usually has:

farex, weet bix, toast, pancakes or scrambled eggs

Lunch is fruit, or fruit and yoghurt:

kiwi fruit, water melon, rock melon, peaches, strawberries, apples, pears, banana, nectrines, oranges, mangos and avacados.

Dinner veg include:

sweet potato, potatoe, pumpkin, squash, beans, peas, spinach, broccoli, cauilflower, chokos, zucchini and carrots.

I only puree (magic bullet) apples and pears as she doesnt like them cooked. The rest I just mash with either a fork or potato masher.

But now that she is eating our food she has, chicken fettuccine, apricot chicken, roast with roast veg, pork on the bbq, lamb loin chops and veg, meatloaf, spag bowl, rissoles basically whatever we are having for dinner. I dont puree her meat just hand it to her and she feeds herself. Babies have one of the best gag reflexes so generally if they swallow something too big they will bring it back up quite easily. Also for snacks if she is hungry through the day, i give her biscuits, yoghurt, toast or custard. Hope this helps a little :)

I don't give Jenna baby foods at all. I just chop veggies in small pieces, and cook until they're very soft.

I'm not sure what the concern is about the fruits? Between all my kids, they've had almost every fruit I can think of by 8 months, although Jenna has only had banana and a bit of cooked apple.

Thank you both. With the fruits. What fruits do u give and how do you know if they are ripe and ok for them to eat? I know a banana has to be turning brown, but what about other fruits and what fruits can they have?

A lot of parents make their own baby food. You could just make sure to have something fresh for her and keep it a little lumpier so she can chew it. You could also add little bits of noodle or plain rice to her baby food to give it texture for her to chew. Or add little chunks of banana to her fruit baby foods.
