Help! Too soon for potty-training?

My son is sixteen months and is repeatedly taking his diapers off. I've tried pull ups and he pulls them off too. Someone suggested that it might be time for potty training but he is still to young to indicate when he needs to go?
I am at a loss. How do I get him to keep his pants on? lol.

Put a onesie on him if you are not ready to start potty training. My daughter does this too and this seems to stop the diaper from coming off.

I don't think it's too soon to try... my son just started potty training, and granted, you do have to ask them a lot if they have to go, but it's worth it. If you think he's too young though, do try the duct tape or the putting on the diaper backwards.... one worked for my friends son, and the other worked for a different friend's son...

Thanks for the advice guys. My daughter was potty trained by 15 months. she gave clear signs that she was ready and the whole procees didn't take more than 3 weeks. I have tried the same things with my son to no avail. When he's ready I believe he will let me know. But I have tried putting an underwear/pants over the diaper. the extra challenge to get it off seems to be a deterrent.

my daughter just turned 17 months yesterday and she's been trained since 15 months but when we do go out for long period of time i do put on pull ups in case of accidents....but rarely do! good luck! consistency is the key!

I think that kids can not be under-estimated. I have known many kids who have been potty trained by two or sooner and kids that still have trouble at four. I think it depends some on the individual child but mostly on on the expectations of the parents.
The article I posted was good advice for some of my friends and I plan to use a similar approach. We have made potty training casual for my 16m daughter and plan to plan to go no diapers soon. From the few months of her casually being put on the potty she has become comfortable with going on it and has also seen the connection of when she goes in her diaper.
I do like the idea of keeping him in Onesies or backward pj's until you can get the process started. Either way it is a lot of work :( but with a good attitude you will do great on what strategies to try. Good Luck!

I don't think it's too soon -- I'm about to start on my son -- but it always depends on the kid. I'm going to start mine partly because he's very regular with his pooping, I can tell when he is, and I think he'll really dig the process (he loves things that have an order to them: do this and then this happens), and partly because my older two potty trained much older (my 4yo is still in pull-ups, but that's because of a chronic constipation issue) and I'd like to only have one that I have to change. :)
Give it a shot -- the worst that can happen is that it doesn't work, right? :) But I've also heard the duct tape method, and putting it on backwards. No shame in it. :) We do what we have to do.

Ahhhh!! when I get my son up in the morning, his pants and diaper are off, and he grins at me!! I know the feeling. I think it's to early for my son to be potty trained, I think he just likes his new "trick" that he can do. I did Google suggestions the other day and one mom recommended putting a onesie under the pj's or outfit and she also reinforced the diaper with duct tape. Also putting the sleeper on backwards. Good luck, and trust me youre not alone :)

I know this sounds funny but try to put the diapers on backwards and see if he can reach the tabs. I've had to do this before. Or, set his naked booty on a potty seat and see what he does. LOL
