You don't have to go cold turkey. I work with moms and the thing that I have seen work best, and I recommend is to cut the tip of all the suckies. then each day cut a bit more off until there is no more then you and the child throw it out together. I also recommend that they have a small celebration that the child is a big girl or boy so that they understand that it is a good thing. It has worker for several moms I have worked with, and they reported that they had no issues with the child wanting it either.

I have found that baby will get rid of it when they are ready... it soothes them... I think its more of a need than a want

That does sound like a good idea Sandra
My son is OBSESSED with his soother!!. . Im not sure when I am going to take it away yet, but I think I am going to try that idea when i finally do! :)

I was wondering this also because my son just turned a year and I want to get him off the pacifier but he only uses it when he goes to bed, also how do I get him to leave other kids pacifiers alone
