I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem. My daughter hasn't been gaining weigh or growing at her required growth. She is on the shorter side and smaller side... the doctor has done blood work and increased her calories but she isn't gaining weight anymore. I am just worried that she has a medical problem that I haven't heard of or don't know about. If anyone can tell me anything please let me know! She was born June 1, 2009 she was born by c-section I have 2 other children who haven't had any problems with their weight so this is totally new for me. She was normal weight at birth 7lbs 3 oz. I am a concerned mother who just wants to know why she isn't gaining any weight.

My daughter is 7 months and only ten lbs at the moment. She was albs 8 ounces when born and gained all of it back with in 3 wks. We are going through a ton with her doctors. She had all of the blood tests done when she was smaller like 3 months or so and everything was normal. She eats 14 oz of baby food a day plus 6 -7 breast feedings and I know she isn't starving because she sleeps through the night and she lasts for 2-3 hrs between breast feedings. I am still worried because she us only 10 lbs and eating so well. We are going back to the doctor for weight checks and then to see where we go from there. It could be that she is just a smaller baby, I think that that is what is happening with mine, but it it still scary. I have two older kids as well and they never had anything like this. She can still fit in some newborn clothing.

My son was born June 15th...6lbs 7oz and now he's 13lbs 15oz. everybody always says things like i'm starving my baby and it really upsets me so i'm glad to see i'm not the only one who has a small baby. my son just went to the doc yesterday and they gave my son a shot for anemia and to check his thyroid. maybe you can ask your doc to do the same--just to rule out that your little one doesn't have any of those problems

if your baby has always been small, there isn't too much to worry about but if baby was growing well for the first few months, then stopped growing, i would be worried. has your doctor referred you to a pediatrician? my baby's growth slowed down between 2 and 4 months because she had bad reflux and was spitting up half of her meals. i would maybe get a second opinion (bring all the weights/heights from all appointments) and in the meantime, feed on demand. don't schedule feedings but feed every time baby seems hungry. is she spitting up lots?

Wow! Our stories are very similar. My daughter was born june 17th, and weighed 7 lbs 7 oz. She is breastfed and regained her birthweight withing two weeks, and for the first couple months gained weight well and then almost totally stopped, altough nothing in our routine changed. At her 4 month checkup she only weighed 11lbs. Her pediatrician is great- very supportive of breastfeeding, and enouraged me to keep up with our nursing, just to do it more often. So, I checked with my midwife who delievered her, who is also a lactation consultant, and this is what she advised.... She said to try adding more fats to my own diet= specifically butter and ice cream, since breastmilk is mostly fats, she thought the diet I was eating may have been too lean for nursing. This has helped some. Also I started her on solids at 5 months. My goal was to offer her avacados because they are high in fats and very good for brain development. However, she doesn't like the avacados just yet..but I plan to keep introducing them. She has been picky at first with all veggies (but loves fruit). Anyways, I don't know if you are nursing, but hopefully this was helpful. If she is meeting her milestones don't worry too much. Especially if your doctor doesn't see a problem. Some babies, like ours, are just very petite.

Hi Jaime... I read your message and thank you for your input but I haven't had any reason to believe she has dwarfism... but I have talked to her doctor about it and he doesn't think she is either. We did blood work for all kinds of things shortly after she was born and there was nothing everything come back normal. I don't know what to think at this point. She is meeting all of her developmental skills, she holds her head up, and has been rolling over for at least 2 months. So maybe it is just simply that she will be petite. I am not very tall myself at only 5"2 and her daddy is slim built. So maybe she just has my height and his weight. But I am going to continue to stay on top of it and just hope that no problems or side effects come into play. Right now she is happy and according to the doctor she is healthy aside from being smaller then average children her age. I do have 2 older children ages 4 and 1 and they never had any of these problems so it's just very new to me and I just want her to be healthy little or not. Thanks again for the advise. Thanks to everyone out there for your words of wisdom. Believe it or not it really does help!

My daughter was born June 1ST and weighed 6 lbs 4 oz. She is only 13 lbs 12 ounces so we are just a litle bit more than yours. I am always concerned about her size too. It seems like all the other babies at her daycare that are her age are twice her size. But her dr. says she is just a petite little girl and there is nothing to worry about! I wouldn't worry mom!

Hi there. My name is Jaime and I have two daughters. Caitlyn is 4.5 years old and Hanna was born on June 5th, so she's your daughter's age.

I'm posting this because I saw your post and wanted to share my story. It doesn't, by any means, mean that this is what's going on with your daughter, but I felt like I should chime in. Is there any chance that your daughters limbs are smaller than they should be? My pregnancy with my daughter Caitlyn was textbook.. No problems what-so-ever. She was born, via c-section in March of 2005. Within about an hour of her birth she was diagnosed as being a dwarf. She weighed in at 8 lbs 3 oz and was almost 19 inches long, so she basically was born average sized. However her limbs were noticeably shorter than they should be. Blood work and x-rays confirmed her diagnosis of having Achondroplasia, the most common type of dwarfism. If you'd like to message me, please feel free to.

I would definitely keep an eye on her feeding though, and keep on at the doctor about it. Trust your instincts, they are so valuable! X

My son just turned 5 months and at his last weigh in he was only 12.5 lbs placing him at the 10th percentile for his age, he was 9lbs 3oz at birth. My doctor placed him on a formula, and I still don't think he has gained that much, but I look at it this way. Some babies are big, some are average, and some are just small. As long as they are still developing and not lacking in that area, they are happy, and loved then they should be just fine. She will just be a petite little girl.

Sounds like you have done the right thing by talking with the doctor. If the doctor doesn't seem concerned then I wouldn't worry to much she may just be a smaller baby. Does she have any other problems?? Like, spitting up a lot.. I would just keep in touch with your doctor and see how she does or you might take her to a different doctor for a second opinion. Good luck!!
