Just went in cause I heard my son awake after his nap...and he was flipping over the side rail of his crib!!! I caught him just in time, but he's only 15 months old, and not old enough for a toddler bed, but he's so tall...and the crib doesn't go down and farther...

What should I do?
I don't feel safe knowing now that he can flip himself out of it, it's just too high for a head first fall!

My daughter went into toddler bed at 12 months i have got a stair gate over the door so that when she gets out she cant wonder out her room and into the stairs, he should be fine in a toddler bed.

i put mine in a playpen for sleeping. but he's even getting too big for that now. i'd try the crib mattress on the floor. that's my next step. i'm sure i'll be up all night with him banging on the bedroom door tho

hi i dont know if this will help but i had to move my lil boy out of his cot at 5mths as he wouldnt sleep in the cot as he didnt like being closed in so i put him into his toddler bed in my room against my bed so he couldnt roll out plus there was no toys in my room so there was no worries about him playing also it helped him sleep through the night eventually at 8mths i put him into his own room in his toddler bed with a rail on now he is 17mths old i have moved the rail now and i havent looked back my lil boy knows if im not in the room or the light isnt on then its time to sleep or he just lies on his bed and talks to his comfort rag he has i felt nervous at first but it works and safer not as far to fall if he falls which luckily not had tht yet lol HOPEFULLY I HAVE HELPED GOOD LUCK HUNNI

We have nothing in the kids rooms. They use their rooms to sleep but this might not be your style. If you can move the toys/ toy chest in the closet at night. Put a gate up in the door so he does not wander. Rilo went to his toddler bed at 11 months and has yet to crawl out (thank God). If you put a monitor in the room as well you can hear if he gets up to play. Than you can put him back to bed. He'll eventually adjust.

I'm worried about him getting up and playing through out the night though if he realizes he doesn't have to stay in his crib...I tried a crib tent, and it lasted about a month or so and he had it torn to shreds!!! I'm seriously considering a toddler bed now...
but how do you keep your kid from not playing all night or early, etc?

He sounds like he's ready to be rid of that crib! If you're worried about the toddler bed because he can get out of it, or it's too tall off the floor, you can always put a matress on the floor (so he wont fall) and make his room safe for him to be in without adult supervision! I remember hearing my little brother sometimes in the night when he was around 18 months old, get up, play with something, get back in bed and I'd sometimes see him in the morning sleeping with his stuffed animals, but he was safe and still rested.

I have the same problem except no flipping himself over the bars. He is too tall for the cot now, so we are thinking about a toddler bed... or just going straight to a single bed as he is growing so fast!! lol. :)

Same issue here about 2 weeks ago. I was horrified!! I immediately found a local seller on Craigslist who had a Crib Tent for sale. I am not ready for him to be in a toddler bed yet, he is just finally sleeping through the night and does not need the additional distractions of his room and access to his 'stuff'. After a few nights with the tent, he is back to better sleep habits, and we sleep more soundly too now that we know he is safe. You could also try having him sleep in a sleep sack, but mine climbed out even wearing a sleep sack.
I know others say they have their kids in a toddler bed, but if you aren't ready for that - and I wasn't either - a crib tent works great.

See if the mattress lowers! We lowered ours as soon as our son could sit up on his own. Now when he stands in his crib, his chin is at the top of the railing. No way to fall out then!

OMG, the very same thing happened to me this morning! My heart is STILL lodged in my stomach! All morning I have been contemplating whether to convert the crib.

I feel as if she is still a little young for the toddler bed (don't know why), but I think that is really my only option at this point! Uggh...the little acrobat, lol!!

Good luck, Mary! Let me know what you decide to do.

we moved our daughter to her toddler bed on her first birthday but the bed said for the baby to be at least 15 months to sleep in it but her brother is due right away and i wanted her to have forgotten about her crib so there was no jealousy like the baby's in my bed. but if he can climb out of his crib, i dont see how a toddler bed would hurt. what age is your toddler bed for?

why do you think he is too younge for a toddler bed? is he walking? can he climb on and off the couch? if so then he is fine to move into a toddler bed.

my daughter moved at 12 months and we simply pu up a side rail til she got used to being in there. she has never fallen out... and even if she did its only 4 inches off the ground! she falls further when she trips over!

if your worried why not put a matress on the ground until you feel he is old enough for a toddler bed!

why is he too younge for a toddler bed? they are about 4 inches off thr ground!

my daughter went into one at 12 months! we put a safety rail up to start with them moved it when she started climbing over it!

if you worried about him falling out just put a matress on the floor for him for a little while!
