my daughter only woke up once maybe twice a night with the odd third time in there, it was always for a feeding. She always would go back to sleep about a half an hour to an hour afterwards. She is now 4 months old and is sleeping 8-12 hours straight a night.

Just something to think about - my 4 month old is an amazing sleeper but we found that while he was sleeping on his back - as recommended of course, he woke every couple of hours - now that he is rolling over and sleeping on his tummy - he is sleeping from 7:30pm to 6:30am and is even putting himself to sleep.

My son is 4 months now but when he hit 3 months he suddenly started waking a lot more at night and was way harder to get back to sleep. I think they hit a growth spurt around that time that can contribute to it. They need to eat more during that time... hopefully it will only last a few days! Developmental milestones can also cause sleep disturbances, and he had just started to roll over then.

He has gradually gone back to sleeping longer stretches, but still wakes easily and can be hard to get to go down.

My lil girl is now 4 1/2 months old and still wakes up atleast once a night!!! she did wake up 3 times a night. Every baby is different, you cant compare any baby to yours, he/she will grow out of it when they are ready, its just the game of patience really.

After a 6 oz bottle with 1 tsp. of rice cereal, around 8 or 9 pm Ryan wakes up once a night for a 6 oz bottle w/rice cereal then he sleeps til 5 or 6 am and wants another 6 oz.of just formula He is very restless earily in the a.m with gas from the formula so I dont get very restful sleep after his 1 am feeding.

I think its great that your not giving in and giving your baby cereal or formula if you dont feel thats right yet. every parent should do whats best for them and their baby. I started my daughter on cereal when she was 31/2 months but thats not the right decision for everyone. Good Luck i Hope you can get some sleep soon.

Quoting Beth:

Aiden is the exact same - he is 3 and a half months old and wakes up every two hours and sometimes even more often. I haven't found out anything that helps yet, but people have suggested cereal to fill him up more...I haven't decided if I'm comfortable with that yet! If I find something that works I will let you know - Good luck and you aren't alone!

HI Beth.. nice to know im not the only one. Sometime Lujane wakes up more than 3 or 4 times too .. the most i remember is 6 hehehe.. but 4 seems to be the lucky number at the moment.. i guess they will sleep longer when they are ready :) im not going to give her anything extra like cereal or formula :) so looks like ill have to wait it out heheh. thanks and good luck

Definatly depends on the child. And, even if you do get a schedule figured out, watch out, because it will change :) With my first son, it seemed we would get into a schedule on feeding for 2 weeks, I would think we were done changing, then he would do something completely different for me. However, sometimes cereal does help, but talk to your ped before trying. Seems like at about 1 yr they start getting their schedules figured out and then you can kinda know whats coming :) My 3 month old is going to bed at different times every night currently (though we do try to keep it the same!), and eating every hour starting at about 4pm until 7 or 8. Sleep for a bit, eat again, then wake at 4-6 am. Eat then go back to bed until 8 or so. We will see how long this lasts :)

Our birth class instructor told us that feeding a baby more often at a less ammount is better for them in the long run. However, for many people it is not convienient. We've tried to do this to our best ability. Our son eats about 4.5 oz and he wakes up once or twice at night. That is breast milk. I hear formula helps babies sleep longer if you need the sleep. It will also depend on how much you baby eats at a time.

Our daughter still wakes up around 3:30 for a feeding. After her feeding, she will usually sleep for another 2-3 hours before she stirs again. Sometimes I can get her back to sleep with a pacifier after that, other times she wants to play for an hour before napping for another 3 hours. Since I am getting up to work at that time, I don't fight the hour playtime. I just keep her in her pjs so she is ready for that nap.

Hi,

My son wakes up at 6-6.30am after going to bed at 7pm, I used a book called "Save Our Sleep" and have found the routine very helpful, I've altered it a bit to suit us but it works. He has a "dremfeed" at 10pm which is feeding a bottle to ur baby while they r still asleep, i've found this is wat makes him sleep longer.

Hope it helps, if u could get a copy of the book it may help u, it did for me xxx
