What age is he really?

This is a stupid question, I know. However, I was wondering if the age of the baby is in actual weeks (like he is 24 weeks old so he is 6 months old) or actual date that he was born (like he was born on June 5, so is he 7 months old on December 5). Anyone know the answer to this?

I would go by the month method because I remember when I took my son for his 4-month shots, the doctor wouldn't give them to him because it was two days shy of his fourth month. He actually made me reschedule. I don't know if it's medically necessary or the government just wont pay unless it's exact, but either way, the doctor was going by the month method.

I am SOOOOOO glad I'm not the only one confused by this issue. I think I will switch to the month-to-month method. Thank you everyone for your advice.

This was frustrating me as well because all my emails seem to be off because I was counting my baby's age by weeks. So is that bad? She was born June 26, so should I have waited till December 26 for her 6 month appt. ? Also for developmental things like what foods to start her on, should I wait till Dec. 26? Sooooo confusing.

Remember one month is about 4.3 weeks (only February is exactly 4 weeks), so going by weeks, you can't actually say 24 / 4 = 6 months because it mathematically is not correct. That is why it seems the weeks are off from the date. I hope that makes sense.

I went by weeks until about five months and now use months. I am too busy with my two darlings to worry about weeks. I used to write in his Plunket book every week and changed over to just noting special dates after 5 months. All his firsts are recorded which is the important thing.

So funny! I was going by weeks and figured out that he would be 13 months old at his first birthday if I kept using the 4 week a month method. So, I don't know when you start counting months instead of weeks but I agree that it is very confusing! good luck! I do go from his birthdate to the same date of the next month for his age now - weeks are too confusing....

I'm with Amanda. It just get's too confusing. I tried going by weeks with my first son and it only worked until about a year old. :) Now, I am going by month with my second son, and it does make it a whole lot easier. Partially being, I can't remember what week we are on anymore :)

Hmmmmm,I used to think about that, but I go by date. Like my son was born june 26th,so on december 26th he will be 6 months. If irt went by weeks, birthday dates would make no sense, since it is the 1 year mark.
