What is the best way to get my baby drinking from a baby cup?

Hi

My son was born at 27 weeks and is now 16 months. I've had this problem of trying to introduce the drinking cup to him ever since he was 6 months and even now, he refuses to have any water/juice from the cup and wants to have it by bottle everytime.

Its becoming a bit of a nightmare, as other parents I've talked to, are saying their children started drinking through the drinking cup since they were 6 months+. Even through straws.

Everytime, I try and put the cup to his mouth, he thinks I'm going to give him something horrible to him to drink and gags.

Hey maybe try taking the lid off and holding the cup and let him drink it. My son was the same way when we did this and he realized he liked what was in the cup he began to hold it his self.

Hi Cheryl..Thanx for your reply and advice.

I tried a feeding cup with 1 hole in the sprout today, but he seems so facinated with the cup, he doesn't drink the juice, unless I hold it.

Seperate question, did u find people would make judgement at your 32 week old babies and find that people compare them?

The reason why I say this, is because my son has had this and is still having this from people. Sometimes I think people don't think and they are so quick to judge.

hi try not to worry too much he is still a baby and are all differant.and he was early so had loads of catching up to do.i have twins born at 32wks and are now 16ms.i left them on baby formula till the were 12ms switched over to 1year+ formula.and now mixing ounce-by-ounce with cows milk.sometimes if u swtch milk and put into a cup the do it that way. my 2 were on 3 bottles aday so i just went cold turkey with the morn,afternoon ones and my daughter took to the change very well justnot having all of it.my son screamed and screamed everyday for a week and it was the worsed feeling but i dint give up and after that he was fine.they still have an evening bottle and they are defo ready for that.but i dont let them see them allday. they had a cup with water-juice since they were 7ms but never really drank well from them but practise is all he needs.just give him a cup with his prefered drink in and offer every day or just leave it at his reach and he might supprise u.or go cold turkey but u gotta be strong.
or have u tryed a cup that has the really soft spout almost like a bottle.good luck i no it hard esp with the pressure of what other kids are doing
