What is your little one eating?

My little boy just turned 9 months old yesterday. I was wondering what everyone was feeding their 8-9 month old. We've started giving him normal foods (bits of fresh fruit, mashed veggies, cheerios, and bites off our plates) but he is still taking about 4-5 bottles (4-8 oz depending on how hungry he is) and we still try to do mostly baby food (stage 2-3 or homemade). He also loves the Gerber snacks (yogurt bites, lil crunchies, and puffs).

I've seen some moms describe their baby's diet and it seemed that they were mostly on all "big people food" and others that do only baby food. What are you feeding your June Baby?

She basically eats what we eat, aside from the obvious egg whites, milk, peanuts and that sort of thing. Standard meals are oatmeal for breakfast, usually with some pears added and ginger and cinnamon for flavour. Lunch is usually leftovers or homemade soup or toast with avocado and some mashed up veg. Her favourite dinners are rice pasta with spaghetti sauce, fish with mashed sweet potatoes and broccoli and (believe it or not) curry on brown rice. She particularly likes chickpeas in her curry. She's pretty adventurous. Oh - she still gets 24 oz of formula a day too.

Roanan is 8m old, we started him on table food around 6m, but he was ready way before that! And while I have tried to follow the whole introduce one food at a time thing, We have found nothing that boy won't eat! He will try anything! He loves meal time and eats a verity of things. He is stil nursing and may go a day or two without table food, but if it is in reach he will eat it!

He had baby food like twice, but he had trouble with the texture or lack there of. I had to add baby cereal to get it thick enough so he would'nt choke on it. So I quit giving him baby food. I have a small food prosser perfect for meat and other foods. That way he just eats what we do. I am not worried about allergies, there is'nt a history in our family.

I make all of my babies food. I steam and mash the veggies cause he likes to chew. So far as veggies he is getting butternut squash, potatoes, LOTS of avacado, pumpkin, brocolli, carrots, corn, green beans, and onions.

fruits are already soft, you don't have to let them get over ripe.

I put them in the food processor and let it PULSE till it is the right consistency and as fruits go Jaxon has had banannas, blueberries, apples, strawberries, tomatoes, apricots, prunes, raisins, grapes, pears, honey dews, watermelons, and cherries.

Lemon Juice is acidic, but my dr said its perfectly fine to put a few drops per jar in the food (I portion all of his food into baby food size mason jars.) to keep the fruits from browning.

I also put a capsule of fish oil in all of his food for the DHA ARA and Omega - 3.

My little guy is 8 1/2 mo. We're doing about the same as you. It took us a long time to even get to this point - he hated "real" food and wanted his bottle. He's starting to want real food and less bottles, but it's slow going. He loves yogurt and eats lots of it, not a big fan of "finger" foods. My first one was the opposite - he wanted real food and no bottles pretty early on, but this one is taking his sweet time :)

my daughter eats the 6mth baby food still, ive tred starting her out ont he 8mth food, but she gags on it and sometimes pukes(not fun) so i'm keeping her on the 6mth stuff for a bit longer. she is 9mths old and has no teeth, so i'm thinking that might have something to do with it, nothing to chew up the bits of food with. she was taking 3-4 bottles a day of 6-8oz each, but recently has gave up formula all together, she only takes about 6-8oz in a day now, but our dr. doesnt seem concerned because she definately healthy, 25lbs 30in. and she seems happy. we're going to be starting her on homo milk within the next month or so.

My son is very picky. He doesn't like any veggies unless its in stews/soups. We give him bean stew and chicken soup with veggies in it, applesauce, yobaby yogurt, sometimes bananas, oatmeal/rice cereal, gerber puffs. He doesn't like texture too much so still working on table food very slowly. He still gets 4- 6oz bottles a day plus the formula that is in his cereal. He still gets anywhere from 24-32 oz a day.

I never fed/feed my daughter who is now 8.5 months any jarred baby food. I made everything myself, I personally find it to be more healthy, I know whats in it and its a LOT cheaper. The only things I ever pureed was apples and pears as she never liked them cooked, everything else I would just mash with either a fork or potato masher. Now she eats everything we eat. Its great. She loves all her fruits and vegies and loves feeding herself. If you want a list of everything I give her, im happy to give you one :)

my daughter will eat anything! we mainly do table food and the gerber snacks. she gets a 8oz bottle in the AM and a morning snack, then lunch is a fruit and a veggie and a sippy cup of either juice or formula, then a afternoon snack, then for dinner if she can eat what we are having she will eat that with a sippy cup of juice or formula, if she cant eat what we are having she will have one of those gerber graduate toddler meals. and then a evening snack and a bottle b4 bedtime. i was kinda iffy at first when my hubby brought those home but i tried it and she chewed it up good and swallowed. she is a advanced eater. since 3 months she has stared us down for food and we would give her a taste now and then.

Thanks ladies. This makes me feel better. It sounds like we are all on a similar phase. My niece is six weeks older than my little boy and she started eating almost all table food really quickly.

Jaime- My son was a gagger too. He has always had a really big gag reflex and would choke on stuff really easily. We started giving him really little bits that he didn't really need to chew. You can also try a "fresh food feeder". It is this little mesh bag that you stuff a piece of fruit or veggie in and they hold the handle and gnaw on it. They can't get big enough bits to choke on and they learn to mash the food or they don't get it out of the holes in the mesh. He eventually caught on and does really well now.

my son eats mostly baby food and snacks but if he can handle what we are eating at the time then he is more than welcome to eat it (but he only had two teeth so i'm sometimes caustious) he also gets about 20 oz formula all day....pediatrician says everything is fine so whatever you feel comfortable with =)

I am still feeding my 9 month old baby food and no table food or even the Gerber snack stuff. Anything that Quenton has to chew he seems to have a problem with. I keep on trying to introduce the foods to him but he refuses to chew and proceeds to gag and vomit and I am beyond frustrated. I have 6 other girls who were never this stubborn and don't know what to do! Any ideas on how to get my boy to start chewing and not gagging and vomiting? He eyes our food up like it's some kind of fine cuisine so he's interested. I will take any and all advice!

My son hasn't taken to food at all hardly and it concerns me although the doctor doesn't seem worried. He eats what I feel is very little of the baby food or even small bites of big people food mashed up. Some days he is more interested in eating than others. I don't know!

My LO is 8 months and eating Stage 2-3 baby foods, cheerios, toast, crackers, some fruits, mashed veggies, mashed potatoes, fish, cheeses, noodles, egg whites, I watch him closely, as so far so good. He chews very well, even though he has NO teeth yet. I don't think they are ever coming through! Still BFing and he also gets some juices and water :)

My son is eating oatmeal, stage 2-3 fruit veggies and the meals with meat. He also loves the snacks like the puffs and the little star things. He also gets 5 5oz bottles and will also have some juice miked with water. Sounds like your doing the same thing I am. I am going to wait for his 9 month check up to see if he should be getting anything else.

I'm feeding my son oatmeal, some fruit (i.e.bananas), and baby food (stage 2-3). I will be introducing him to finger foods this weekend (i.e. yogurt bites, cheeriors, etc.). I'm scared to feed him homemade food yet but I will before he turns 1 in June. He drinks 5 bottles daily (3-6 oz).
