Okay so I was wondering if anyone uses soy formula, or could maybe help shed some light on this. My daughter never really gets fussy, but for the last two months has REFUSED to sleep on her back (she is 5months) but was sick this past week and was limited on her fomula and then I bought soy for her too thinking it might help. *she was on antibiotics, fever and congested..* well she was sleeping on her back and sleeping great. Today we gave her her normal formulas Similiac Sensitvie Lactose Intolerance and Gerber Good start Gentle Plus and she refused to sleep onher back. Should I talk to the doctor about switching formulas or just let her sleep on her belly. Are the pro's or cons about soy? I am lactose intolerant myself, she passes a lot of gas but i assume that's normal.

Both of my daughters were on Soy. We tried to breastfeed both and it didn't work so we had to do formula. We bought regular and both spit up a lot, wouldn't sleep, and very fussy. I'm lactose as well so the doctor told us to switch to Soy. We did and it was a world of difference. Both slept well, no more spitting up and no fussiness. My first daughter (she's 2 1/2 now) is no longer lactose. The doctor said most infants grow out of it. My 6 month old is still using soy. I noticed a huge difference between formula's. good luck!!

What all would you like to know about soy formula? My daughter is on soy and she is about 6 months and does really good with it.

Hello,
I was told by the doctors that babies/infants rarely have an allergy to milk, but only adults have a true lactose intolerance. The doctor said that the babies need the lactose in the formula or breastmilk for bone growth and soy lacks that.
On the other hand, I also wonder and am concerned about the overall ingrediants in formula. They claim its healthy and almost as good as breast milk.
Im trying to do organic for me and my baby(have to supplement formula since I do not produce enough milk). I dont trust the fda and all these opinions after research and a book I read about whats in our food. Other than calcium concerns I would consult your doctor just in case, it just seems society wants us to let the doctors be the parent instead of the parents doing the parenting We have to use our best judgment,-Ive been told the switch of formulas can cause upset stomach.
my son is gassy-but seems to do ok on the formula even though I struggle with having to feed it to him. He doesn't seem constipated or agitated or colic, he also sleeps on his side and has been doing that since he was newborn. I had to turn him over alot. Id say checking in with docs, opinions, research you'll make a decision for what you think is best for your baby. Good luck.

My daughter was on Soy at 2mo as she was VERY uncomfortable on Cow's Milk based formula. We have since discovered that it was a cow's milk intolerance.

Whilst on soy, she became VERY constipated so I had to change formula again. She is now on Goats milk base and doing great!

Having said that, she also loves to sleep on her tummy - with all 3 types of formula. I have just recently put a wedge in the bed to try to stop her rolling, but it hasn't helped. She tends to use her cot as a gymnasium... My health nurse recommended using a sleeping bag - so I have her in one tonight. She has twisted the top of her body but her legs don't seem to have followed - yet...

If you want to change formula, I suggest checking with a health professional. As for the tummy thing, I think some kids are just more comfortable on their tummy...

I use the Similac Soy and it seems to be the only formula that my daughter doesnt have problems (gas, constipation, etc) with!

your daughter might just not want to sleep on her back. my son falls asleep on his side and eventually rolls on to his back through the night. she might just be uncomfortable having a full belly and laying on her back. i know when my tummy is full laying on my back gives me heart burn. she may have been sleeping on her back while eating less because her tummy wasnt uncomfortable.

it really could be that simple, or it could be more complicated and related to the kind of formula.

if she is able to roll around at her need, you shouldnt have to worry too much about her sleeping position, i know alot of moms just let the baby do as needed as they get older as far as sleeping positions as the baby gets older.

I was nursing; still do at nighttime, but, when i went back to work when my daughter was 3 months old and i wasnt pumping enough milk so i ended up giving my daughter soy milk because i didn't want her to get used to the regular formula, since i was nursing. I called my dr to find out if it was okay to give my daughter soy milk; she told me that it was okay, but if she is not getting the vitamins from my breast milk then i need to give her regular formula. If you are lactose intolerate then u should talk to the dr about it. If u go back to soy milk then you should give her vitamins or the gerber rice cereal if she is on solids... Good luck
