My baby was born 80% weight and 90% height. She was a great eater during the first month. I BF her most of the time and give her EBM via bottle once or twice a day just making sure she can get used to the bottle. At about 6 weeks she suddenly start to get fussy during each feeding. I had no idea why. And at 10 weeks she completely refused bottles. I then struggled with her for two weeks to get her take bottle again because I am going back to work at 12 weeks. She still hates bottle and struggles each time when she takes bottle but eventually she would take some when she is tired. However, she sleeps 12 hours through the nights and I am having a hard time to wake her up to feed her when I get home. So we are trying very hard to make her at least take 20 oz a day. But I feel that is too little. Her weight and height are both dropped to about 60% now and the Ped told me she is not growthing fast enough. I don't know how to make her drink more. And I am wonderin ghow much does your 3 month drink?

my 3 month old daughter drinks 30 oz per day. 5 bottles x 6 oz at a time. she sleeps at night between 9 and 10 hours. she doesnt just eat and sleep anymore... she eats, plays and sleeps for a short while, having one longer nap in the afternoon. have you tried playing and talking to her lots after her feed before she falls asleep? my little girl has now got very active limbs, kicking and exploring things which probably helps increase her appetite. my health visitor says she is gaining weight a little too quickly even though she is having the exact amount of formula she is meant to have at this age. sometimes you cant win. but all my babies gained weight quickly and all lost it later on. babies loosing weight at this stage is a bit of a worry though. i agree with Carol about the bottles you use, try a wide teet. i have always used Avent bottles and have never had a problem going from bf to bottle with these. maybe just offering her milk everytime she wakes, or if she sleeps a lot still, wake her a little earlier for her feeds. ie, if she usually goes 3 hours between feeds, try every 2and a half hours, just to get more into her. good luck.

Mine was born 3.5 months early, so she's really just a week past her due date, but they have added formula into the expressed milk for her to boost the calories... If she will only take 20 oz, (the lactation nurse told me a typical 3 month old takes about 25), maybe you could boost the calories of it, to help her gain the weight she needs.

My first baby was BF for 10 1/2 months, the whole time they Health Nurse and Doc kept telling me she was too small and wasn't gaining weight fast enough, she would nurse about 6-7 times per day but only have real short feds...she was a very happy very healthy baby who slept for 12 hours a night, I felt I was doing something wrong cause she wasn't gaining fast enough, but she is now a healthy almost 2year old. As long as you know there's no medical reason for her decreased feeding and she's still happy I would just say keep doing what you're doing

How you getting on now? I BF too but recently just on bottle since my supply has gone and I'd been worried about how much he was getting. He slept through the night really early so he misses out on a night feed. I was giving him 6oz 4 times a day however I've found out it's not enough so I've gone up to 7 which he has no bother with. I hope the ped gave you some advice...

My daughter is almost 4 months (the 4th is her birthday) and she eats about 24 oz a day. When she was born, she was 16% height and 2% weight. There was nothing physically wrong with her so the ped just told me to feed her every 3 hours instead of 4 until she passed 6 1/2 lbs. She wouldn't latch at all so I pumped and fed via bottle for the first month. Afterwards, I dried up so formula it became. She eats every 5-6 hours, around 6 oz each, except at night, when she sleeps the whole night through. Last month, she started refusing the bottle but then my mother told me to try some sugar water, (lightly sugared). I did and she liked the bottle again. Its also a good way to raise the weight a bit as we all know that sugar consumption can lead to weight gain.

My daughter did the same thing. She's been on formula pretty much since she's been born. She was doing fine drinking about 3 ounces every 3 hours and then it completely changed all of a sudden. We switched bottles because we had "close to breast" nipples and changed to slimmer ones and a medium flow. That seemed to help. Also we had to let her eat as much as she can and then burp her. We noticed she wouldn't eat anymore after we stopped to burp her. Very fussy. She still does it now and is almost 4 months. She's still at a daily 20-21 ounces per day. She's gaining weight, just slowly. She was 6lbs 1oz when she was born and now she's an estimated 13lbs 1oz. So she's doubled her weight which i've read is good. We've also been putting a tiny bit of cereal in her bottles to help her gain a little more weight. Ped said she'll eat what she needs. Seeing the doc again soon for her 4 month check up. We'll see what she says. Try switching bottles and try formula. Good Luck!

My daughter is the same! Try giving her a bottle facing outwards and walking around. Distract her. Also give her a latex nipple not a silicone one. My daughter will use the gerber latex nipples. ave you tried giving her formula?

my daughter also just turned three months today, i breastfeed her and bottle feed when i need to go out without her, she takes her bottle just fine . have you tried different types of bottles and nipples, my older son who is now two struggled with changing from the breast to the bottle, we tried several different bottles for him and found that he liked playtex bottles with liners, the nipples are similar to the breast. I also use these type of bottles for my daughter. When trying to wake your baby undress her to her diaper and use a wet cloth, that seemed to work when i needed to wake my lil ones. as for eatting good luck and u can try feeding her more often than usual even if she doesn't cry to eat, my three month old eats about every 2-3 hours, for about 5-10 minutes, when i express my breast milk it usually turns into a six ounce to 8 ounce bottle. Once again good luck with feeding you lil one. Public health nurses can also give you advice if you need it, i got so much information from, pre-natal and post-natal classes, as well from my doctor.
