Tuesday evening my daughter refused her baby food, so I gave her some mac and cheese and she went to town on it.... She cried for some more. She chewed it up and didn't have any problems swalling it and she fed herself. She didn't choke on it she had done it so well.... I mentioned it to her child care teacher that she ate mac and cheese for dinner, her teacher asked me if she could give her some peas for lunch. I told her yes, it was fine.... Turned out that she loved them. She ate pears and peas for lunch with a sippy cup..... Tonight again she wanted table food, so i gave her a little bit of what i had for dinner and she loved it..... I know that baby food gives them all of the vitamins that she needs but, she'll be 9 months on March 7th and she seems old enough to be taken off of the bottle, and put on a sippy and eating table food. Am I wrong for this.. Anyone elses baby going threw the same thing. If so what did you do?

Thanks everyone with the advice i really appreciate it. My little girl loves table foods. I tried to give her baby food a couple of days ago of fruit and she refused it.... So, she'll be on table food for good. She also refuses to be fed so i just put her food on her high chair and give her a spoon and she tries to scoop her food into her mouth. Our babies are getting so big...:-)

well baby food is good for that age as long as the baby can chew it.. just make sure you monitor the baby while eating so you would know if the baby is choking or not (well of course everybody doesn't want that to happen for their babies but just to make sure) and nowadays there are recipes just made for babies so you can also check it out... so good luck for your baby and more baby foods to come!

We just had our 9 month appointment with the pediatrician and she said as long as there's no choking and baby is happy, go ahead with the table foods! :)

my little girl is 8months and she won't eat baby food, I just make her food and she prefers to eat it herself she doesn't like to be spoon fed so I just put stuff on a plate and let her go

My son turns 9 months on 7 March as well! He never liked purees or being spoon fed, and loves feeding himself. We jumped straight into giving him finger foods (baby-led weaning) from 7 months after struggling with feeding him purees for a month. Now at 8.5 months, we eat the same foods at dinner. However, we cook his food a lot longer so its softer as he still has no teeth. I spoke to our Maternal Child Health Nurse regarding jumping straight to finger foods, and she confirmed that this is very common for babies who have been breastfed, and that it is okay to continue doing this and that it is a positive thing. I was so relieved to hear this as I have been tearing my hair out trying to get him to eat purees. Since then, he has been eating pieces of chicken, beef, pasta, ribs, brocolli, apples, mum-mums, etc. On top of that, I still breastfeed him 4-5 times a day as this is still his main source of nutrition.

Well I will first say what my ped told me. Their nutrition comes from formula/breastmilk until they are a year. Their body pulls more needed nutrition from its contents and thier digestive system is not mature enough for some foods. The baby foods are watered down too much to use as a main staple in their diet. Having said that, I have given both my babies certain table foods since about 4 months. Mashed potatoes, soft veggies, crackers, etc. I gave him pizza crust one time and some ingredients messed with his belly. Anything with tomatoes, cheese and too much milk product will hurt their bellies because their digestive system is not mature enough. But like my sons have taught me, as long as they have their formula, give them what they will eat.

I used ro steam all my daughter food n blend it or mash it. Occasionally giving.her some chicken or meat or somethin
g we were eating. At 7 months she went on a mashed food
strike unless she could feed it to herself she wouldnt eat it.
So instesd of mashing it I would just steam sticks of.veg or chuncks of veg n cook her meat n she feeds herself she only jad two teeth (they dnt need teeth to eat/chew) n she eats absolutley everything. If we have spaggetti bolagnaise sh e has it I just take hers out be4 I add.salt an a I do this for everything.just take hers out.before I add something she cant eat eg chilli salt etc if we r havin something inappropraite eg takeaway I make her veg n meat n friut or creamed rice or fruit juice jelly for dessert for lunch she eats sandwiches fruit, sometimes veg n meat she is a.great eater havent found anythin she doesnt like. Thankyourself lucky n take this opportunity to feed.ur.child table foods cause.some parwnts dont n miss the cue n end.up with a child who wont eat anythin other.than bland baby food so embrace this opportunity she has.given u by nine months your baby sjould be geting its majority of nutrients from solids food n by 12 mnths they should be eating a normal dieg of table.foods no bsny food goodluck I think its so fun giveing.my daughter new foods n watching.her taste them for the first time

Sounds like you've got a great eater! Nothing wrong with this picture whatsoever. That just means you get to start saving money on baby food :). My 8 month old is starting to eat little bits of soft foods as well. She loves to chew a little more. As far as getting vitamins, baby food may be fortified with some things, but so is adult food. Are you giving formula in the sippy cup? She shouldn't be without formula or breastmilk until at least a year. And don't worry about vitamins too much. If the table food you're giving her is healthy stuff and not the same thing all the time, you're doing well. Have fun with her!

No problem with it at all. As long as the milk is the main priority until 1 year doesn't matter. And it also doesn't matter how bub gets that milk either. Just as long as he/she gets it. Your baby knows best I think.

There's nothing wrong with feeding them what you're having especially if it's healthy like vegetables. I make my son his meals. He loves his veggies which is great especially when you hear some children refuse to eat them. Atleast you know what's in the food too and can control how much salt, sugar etc is eaten.

My daughter turned 8 months on the 8th and I give her table food as well. I've given her fruit, cheerios, noodles, mashed potatos, mum mums etc. I've never had a problem with her choking or not knowing how to eat it. She does have 2 teeth on the bottom that help her out.

Go for it, they told me not to give Bella food until she was 6 months but i started her on solids at 4 months and now she eats sammies, sushi, basically anything you give her! She loves to do it herself but she will still let me feed her her other food aswell. She sometimes gets a tad "excited" but i just make sure shes neve alone with her food just incase.

nothing wrong with that! i kinda want my son to be there by now. He'll be 9 months in a couple weeks. But he just loves that he can just slurp up his food in a hurry and not have to worry about chewing. lol. i started giving him bits of food that i give my other two older kids. (hes kinda picky for a baby) All the power to ya. As long has hes getting formula until hes about 1 then table food should be fine, he can get the same nutrients from it too. Good Luck :)
