Is there any other mums that have started there baby on baby food early?

My baby is 2 1/2 months and the only thing i tried giving him was rice cereal in his bottle. I was a little hesitant at first because the ped told me not to start till he was at least 4 months. However he weighss 14 pounds eats like a crazy horse and always wanted more food so i tried it only with his night feeding and honestly even though some people say it makes them sleep better it made no difference to him. He actually did not like the rice cereal. So i just started giving more ounces of formula per serving. Other than that though i would not give my baby food yet(and that is just my personal opinion) my baby makes chewing motions as well and puts his fist in his mouth but it think its just what babies do not because they are ready to eat but it just cuz they are babies..but you as a mother will make whatever decision you feel is best :) Good luck :)

My pediatrician also advised that giving fruits and veggies at 4 months is fine. As long as we were not giving him the rice/veggie or fruit combo. This you are not suppose to give until; 6 mnths. We plan on making our own baby food which is even healthier. Each child is different, goes through growths spurts at different ages and develops differently as well.

babies at this age will put anything in their mouths, it doesn't mean they are ready to eat. their digestive systems are still immature. They still dont have complete control over their heads, so they could choke easily. personally, my son is 3 months and i would not feed him until at least 5 months at the earliest. but, to each her own.

Our doctor said that as long as the baby is sitting up and able to reach for the food is a good time. That usually starts around 4 months, but every baby is different.

my pediatrician told me that 4 months is good for solid food :-) he even told me that if she eats more than 32 oz a day of formula to give her rice cereal or baby oat meal with the formula..well she is still eating a lot..so yesterday we tried a smashed banana and she loved it :-)

My pediatrician said not to give my baby anything besides formula until he is 6 months old. I would ask your pediatrician. Babies love to chew on their hands and rattles, etc. It's part of their development.
