Hey well there are a couple of things, a one off is a spoon full of sugar in their bottle or another one is to juice a orange and put half in a bottle and then top the other half with tepid cool water and give it to you baby. Another thing is to massage in a circular motion clockwise on her belly. Hopefully by now she has pooed though.

When I took my daughter to the dr at aroung 1 month they told me to try mylicon drops about every other feeding. It seemed to be working and when it didn't the doc said 1 oz of prune juice or apple juice mixed with 1 oz of water. That gave her diarrhea. I know they say to give toddlers apple juice when they are constipated because the sugar in it is a diuretic so i guess that's why the brown sugar and water or karo syrup also work....Emma is 2 months now and seems to be doing much better without anything now.

My mom told me to put Karo dark corn syrup in my son's bottles. I put roughly one teaspoon per two ounces. I tend to listen to her advice because she has degrees in child care and early child development along with raising three, helping with five others, and being a daycare teacher. :)

My son also had a bit of constipation when he was about 4 weeks, so my child health nurse also suggested brown sugar in some water. A couple days later and he was fine. :)

My son had a similar problem. He would wake up screaming. His doctor told me to switch his formula to the Gentlease. She also said to put some Culturelle in his formula. Culturelle is a probiotic, mainly for adults, but the doctor said to open the capsul and devide it into about three bottles. That helped tremendously. I also spent about ten mins. each morning rubbing his tummy in a downward motion and slowly pumping his legs.

But try the Culturelle it comes in a yellow box with a Green oval that has Culturelle written in it. I think it is about $20 a box, but it really helps. I've gotten it both in the digestive health isle as well as I've asked at the pharmacy at gotten it there.

Good luck. I know how you feel. It is awful watching your little one be in pain and not know what you can do to help.

If the prune juice doesn't work then you might try put a tablespoon (15ml) of Malox in her bottle. Also, if you haven't already, switch her formula to the sensitive easy to digest one- usually similac is best. If neither of these help, take her in to the pediatrician. They can teach you about stomach massage to try to get the intestines going. If that doesn't help, take her to a gastrointerologist. She may have IBS w/ constipation or worse,a genetic condition called Hirrschsprung's disease which is where the nervous system in the GI track doesn't work & so she literally can't poop. They may end up having to do a colostomy or ileostomy on her. It's better to treat it earlier than later tho.I have Hirrschsprung's & an ileostomy & lived with chronic constipation & pain for 21 years before I was properly diagnosed. B TW, I'm a pharmacist so I hope that helps you with believing my credibility. Also, look up the conditions I've described (H.. & IBS & Chrons) & study it. See what best fits her. Hope this helps. Best Wishes.

I have a 6 week old baby & had the same problem at 4wks. My midwife suggested some peppermint tea (a small amount). It helps with digestion. There is also something you can pick up at a health food store. A probiotic for babies to help with digestion. Have you tried a tummy massage or pushing her legs up to help with moving it. Good luck! ... I can only imagine your frustration. Just keep in mind that it WILL pass and that you're doing the best you can.

My son had the SAME problem so my doctor said 1oz prune juiced mixed with 1oz water. It worked within an hour, occasionally when he's stopped up we use Apple Juice because prune juice crampped him up and he was really upset.

my 4 week old daughter is suffering the same, its awful to see her in what looks like pain when she tries to pass stools! my gp just said warm baths, massage the tummy in a clockwise motion, and moving the legs gently in a cycling motion, none of these have worked however i think it just makes her want to go more so she is getting quiet upset with herself. ive tried infacol and gripe water also, my hv advised to try a small amount of pure oj but im a bit dubious as she is so tiny. i hope any of these suggestions helps and if you find anything that does work please let me know what you tried. babies with constipation is a very common thing and i was advised that she could be constipated because she doesnt like the sensation of pooing, my oldest daughter had the same trouble too so i know how frustrating it is that you feel useless that you cant help them. good luck and i hope your bub gets over it soon :-) x

i don't think it would harm your bub if you were to give her a bit of dialted prune juice (just a very small amount)...see how that goes. my 1st little girl had constipation troubles too and prune juice worked a treat with her (but she was a tad older than your child)

try from your chemist coloxyl drops my mum used that on me when i was a baby and constipated, maybe some boiled water too might help but the coloxyl drops you can used in the formula and normally does the trick but try that as i was once a baby who wouldn't poo i was lucky to poo once a week till my mum gave me the drops every now and then in my bottle. hope it helps =]
