Reading Tah's cashier post reminded me of a time I went to old navy and got to the register. I was going to pay in cash. The gal asked me if I could use a card. No, I said, I am paying in cash. She calls her manager over. I'm thinking, wth? It's only a 50 dollar purchase. Here, she had no idea how to ring something out with cash. I asked when she started working - a year ago. Uh...and you don't know how to do cash or make change? really??

Is cash always going to be used and needed or do you think all electronic is the way to go? What if something happens electronically and your account somehow is wiped or card gets demagnetized? No food. sorry. can't pay bills, sorry.

what do you think?

Vicki, Electronic Benefits Transfer= EBT. Food stamps and/or cash (depending on what assistance you get) assistance as 2 seperate 'accounts' on the same card. Cash assistance CAN be a direct deposit if you have a checking account, but I don't have a checking account and don't want one. Yeah, that would certainly cut down on judgements. I just get all my cash out of the ATM though, so no one knows WHAT I spend it on. Food stamps are another story though.... and yes, I DO buy 'crap' sometimes. So shoot me. ;) lol

I solve this problem by being totally broke and having no money at all.

is that better having it on a card? I'd think better direct deposit so its noones business when paying. what does it stand for?

That is really funny. I've tried to get my husband to do the cash thing... but nope wont do it. So I started to do it the other way around our savings and Oh shit fund is in cash. He forgets about it and I hate spending money.

We haven't used a credit card for 2 years or so. We are almost done paying off a card... and I for one never want to go back.

@Vicki: EBT is food stamps and cash assistance. They put it on a debt like card.

I didn't realize we use the cards so much until we went down to court and had to pay to park. It was cash only to the guy in the booth and we were scrambling to come up with 6 fricken bucks.

Now on the other hand, the meters take debit/credit cards.. kinda silly the guy in the booth doesn't have a swipe machine.

Any way, don't have to go back down until July 20th.

I pay most of my bills online, Rural King, Dish, internet, car insurance. I do have to mail in checks for the housepayment, but other than that, all online.

We have found it's harder to spend the cash if you have to go out of your way to get it. (like going to the ATM machine)

As for the girl not knowing how to do a cash transaction, wow!! From the time Jr started learning Math, around 5 years old, we would play this game that he had to figure my change before the lady at the cash register gave it to me. (this was before we used the card for everything) If he got it right, he got to keep the change.

Every other Friday we take out of the bank an amount that we set ahead of time. This cash will last us until the next paycheck. This cash is for everything except gas (too much trouble to pay cash for gas with kiddos) and bills which are automatically drafted. And once it's gone...it's gone. No going back to the ATM. Not surprisingly, we spend less money since we've done this.

I hope cash will be around for a while....

I prefer to use cash, because accounts seem to get more and more messed up, hacked into, trouble with the company...ect

Maybe it's a good thing to not only keep gold but stock up on live stock...since that is what used to be used as currency....lol

Other than my food stamps and getting cash out of the ATM machine w/ my EBT card.... I ONLY use cash. Except for the rare occasion when I have to use my credit card (like when I needed a new microwave). I only use my credit card on rare 'emergency' purchases (or online stuff) and don't have a debit card. I'm a cash girl. People stop accepting cash and I'm in trouble....

i can't stand electronics for everything...computer charting i love..lol, but i think it takes human contact out of the equation. Now i think it has it's place but the fact that she didn't know how to ring cash is pathetic. when they machines take over you'll be sorry...ill be with Jon and his his army...
