Mary, After having read Karen Handel's resignation letter I have to agree with you. I had been thinking that those responsible for the pink sales/ breast cancer awareness prevention strategy was representative of what a non-profit can do with a great business model.



Now, I don't trust Komen's motives or direction at all after seeing how these supposedly intelligent non-profit business women where so easily manipulated into adopting a conservative propaganda-point into their official mission.



You know, deeper into the story it was partly due to LifeWay Christian Resources pulling their Pink Bibles because they learned of the connection between Komen and Planned Parenthood. This would have been a great opportunity to educate this Bible publisher about what Planned Parenthood does for so many women with moneys from Komen. And for pete's sake if the bible publisher refuses to support Komen, find another publisher who will.



The bigotry growing from all of this is nauseating.

I am heartily disappointed by this entire fiasco. I admit, prior to this, I didn't know a whole lot about Komen. I had, however, been thinking for quite some time that the whole pink thing had gotten out of control. To me, it seemed like they were just branding, marketing, and commercializing breast cancer, and something about it just felt wrong. Throw in all of the recent bullshit with politics and ideologies...yeah, I'm just completely done with them.



Karen Handel resigned - yay! That still doesn't fix the problem. Her letter of resignation was a joke to me - she remained defensive of the choice to cut out Planned Parenthood, and continued trying to say that it wasn't about politics or partisanship. She also tried very hard to come across as a victim. However, she did (unintentionally, I'm sure) make one point that I think needs to be remembered by the public. While she may have been a driving force behind trying to make Komen into right wing, conservative organization, she did not, and could not, do this alone.



The reversal in their decision to support PP, even combined with one key player's absence are simply not enough to convince me that Komen is a good way to truly support furthering the fight against breast cancer. Thanks all the same, but I think I'll pass on the pink handgun.

Oh Karla thanks for showing that!! Good for her! Good for that Lady to stand up and point out what their fricken job is. Amen to everything she said and i loved her last line. "Susan G Komen, you showed your ass, now you can kiss mine" Bless her, what a great and strong lady.
