My son would sleep walk all the time when he was younger. Luckily I could usually reason with him and talk him into just going back to bed. He has since grown out of it. When he was doing it all the time I just made sure he went to the bathroom right before bed and cleared a path for him in case he did sleep walk. I do recommend putting locks out of his reach My son was about 7 and ended up outside. We heard him go out and brought him back in but it was still very scary.

My 6 year old walks in his sleep. He only does it periodically. We notice that the times he is most active at night (walking and talking) is when is overly tired. I know is sounds weird. However we notice that when he has gotten less sleep and played really hard he is more active at night. I would try keeping him a really tight bedtime schedule. Good luck and thank you for your openess.

I found that my son usually did it when he had to go to the bathroom. Try having them go right before bed and steering them toward the bathroom, telling them to try before they go back to bed. See if that helps.

I have a son that is almost 4 and he sleep walks as well. Its kind of scarey thats for sure. I found him a few times on the couch in the morning. that scared the crap out of me the first time. When I get up in the morning I always check on my boys before I head down stairs to get ready for the day and the first time my son wasn't in bed I almost had a heart attack. I was scared to death. I woke up my husband and we went on a search for our son. When we found him on the couch we were relieved. But its a very scarey thought. What we had to do was sleep with his door open and our door open and put up a child safety gate at the top of our stairs, and close the bathroom door and have a child safety lock on it,so if he sleeps walks he can't go far and he is safe from harms way. He has still has nights where he sleep walks, but since he is basically trapped upstairs with us and when he is wondering around we can hear him and steer him back to his bed. Thankfully he doesn't do it every night, but it happens a couple of times a week. I hope as he gets older he stops, but for now we just have to grin and bare it.

Take care and good luck!
