I was recently at a party and some of the adults were calling the kids of around 10-14 yrs old sexy. None of them were wearing something a "sexy" 30 year old would wear. I think most of them think it's a word that compliments people, but I think that just makes the kids feel self-conscious and uncomfortable. If they think "sexy" is a word that they think means "grown-up", that's definitely NOT what it means. I would appreciate it if they used words such as "beautiful", "cute", and the "Oh, you look so grown-up!", but sexy is not something you describe children. I don't mind adults calling other adults "sexy", but adults shouldn't be calling kids that. And for the most part, you don't even know what saying that one four-letter word could do to children...

I don't think you understand how hard I laughed at that question. I think it's kinda creepy, but it wouldn't bother me much.

I AGREE , that totally rude and inappropriate for and adult to say. If they say that just walk away or confront them. That's really wrong 😡

I agree totally with you I have a 10 year old and believe me Im getting alot of those comments here. I don't like it but I feel better knowing that is just not me. I know boys are coming up and alot of things mental can be effect a child for life. I just want to be a good single parent.

You are SO right, Emily! "Sexy" is a totally inappropriate word to use to describe a child; I would question the adult's motives in using such a word! Kids these days are sexualized enough through the media and by society; they don't need to hear that kind of language from adults that are close to them. This can have an especially negative impact on young girls: Eating disorders to be thin, low self-esteem/self-image, and hyper-sexual behavior just to name a few. Young girls will eventually become young women that may, in fact, be sexy, but at least the description will be more age appropriate then.
