My oldest is ten, and we are noticing some new parental challenges. I thought it would be good to have a place to ask questions and get opinions!

"a friend of mine" had a little boy...
Who called from the bathroom "mom, come'ere! come'ere!" Mom came in, and he's stark nekkid, investigating between his legs. Said child tells his mother "mom, guess what? I have more hair on my balls than on on my arms!!"
I guess 10 is tough, they are still little boys, but they are going thru these wierd things with thier bodies! ugh, wasn't this supposed to happen when they are teens, not NOW?!?!?!?

My son dont see his father so thats why he ask me all the Questions its better than him not asking and not knowing or asking strangers or his teacher..
When my son tells me things about his private part i tell him "its ok and its natural to feel that way just as long as you dont tell your friends and make sure it only happens on your own in your own private room"
Cause thats what a older mother said to her son.
I thought it was good advice because if you tell them its rude and dirty then there going to feel ashamed of themselves and then won't want to tell you anything anymore..
I hope this helps a little.

Hi there! I have an 11 year old and he's been doing all the things you guys have mentioned. I am no longer the cool mom! He wants to walk home from school instead of taking the bus, he wants to "chill" w/ his buddies....I have started letting his buddies hang out @ our house just so that I can see what is up! The body parts issue hasn't come up w/ me. But I think since e's so close w/ my hubby maybe he's asking him. I can't believe how big my boy is getting!

as my mom says, paybacks are a bi***, lol, but it doesn't make me feel any better! Just makes me feel bad about what I put my mom through!

I as well have a 10 yr. old. Except my oldest is a girl. She is doing the exact same things as the boys that i have just read about. Getting mouthy, asking different body questions, pushing the envelope in general. The best thing that i can come up with is just think of when you were that age and add an extra year or 3 on to where we were back then. The kids are just that more advanced now than we ever were. That is all that i can come up with.

It's so weird to read all these posts, i feel like i am reading about my own son! At least I know I am not the only one who has a 10 yr old that acts this way! He thinks he should be allowed to do things that a 15 yr odl would do! Like it's Halloween, the first time I let him go around the neighborhood by himself and he kept pushing it wanting to stay out til 10! Gimme a break! I haven't had any issues with the body parts yet, but he did ask me when he was going to grow underarm hair! He probably saves those questions for his father (we are not together anymore). I worry that he will lose the part of him that is so sweet and loving, i am tired of fighting with him all the time.

Hi! I have a 10yo as well... and seems like we are all seeing the same exact issues, lol!
My DS tries the mouthy thing every so often, but I've taken a page out of MY mothers' handbook and "the look" seems to nip it in the bud quickly. at least until the next time, lol.
He also has friends that tend to be a little more advanced then him, with more freedoms. The only thing I have been able to do to combat that so far is too entertain 'em all here- the cost of kool-aid is totally offset by my peace of mind. Although we do occasionally butt heads when I don't let him roam the neighborhood after dark, or make him do his homework when the kids are outside. Any suggestions????
Oh, and there's the changing body thing. I was hoping you guys could help me out with that, lol, so I have no suggestions to offer.
I'm just having a hard time reconciling the little boy who wants to cuddle and has stuffed animals on his bed with this person who thinks he can tell me 'no' and get away with it!

Does anyone know how old a boy is when they start talking about their body parts my son has said some stuff that worry's me he is too young. His little body is changing and he is asking me Questions that i dont know the answers to.

I have a 10 year old son. He is my oldest as well. We have come upon some hurdles with him that I just wasn't ready for yet. He tends to want to go and do things that I think may be beyond his age. He is mouthy, but sometimes very thoughtful. I'd like to have someone to bounce ideas back and forth with.
