He's 10 and thinks he'll perish without television every day. He can't watch until homework is done but then he's glued. I've tried recently to make his TV time equal to the amount of time he spends reading his library (AR) book. Seems to be working.

The equal amounts of libarary (AR) book and TV are working. He read for 1 1/2 hours tonight and finished his book!

I have the same issue with my son. He is 12 and TV has ALWAYS been a battle for us. The usual rule is no TV during the week Sunday night - Thursday night. But, if I don't make it home before him and my daughter who is 10.5 they turn it on until I walk in....and act like I'm an idiot by turning it off. Its frustrating and I threaten to do away with cable, but why punish myself and my husband?

Lisa - Just say no. There is nothing wrong with putting your foot down, especially if you really want it to stop. Give him a time limit on the TV and stick to it. :)

I think that is a good idea. But it is also very important that he get outside and plays with neighbors or at a friends house. My son loves to be in front of the tv and video games too. We no longer have cable so that has helped alot! Plus, he is getting kind of tried of watching the same old movies on dvd. Good luck.
