It's normal. I've never actually seen my daughter masturbate, but I'm pretty positive she does. I guess you could talk to her about it. But there isn't really much to talk about.. you'd just make her feel uncomfortable and awkward around you.

She'll eventually grow out of it, I mean she's only 2! When she's older you guys will just make a big joke about what she was doing. She's younger she has no idea what she's doing, so really you shouldn't make a big deal out of it until your older.

WAIT. She's two?!?! OH. Then who cares either way! I doubt she would even understand what you were talking about.

She's going to do it anyway. There's no need to confront her. I bet every person commenting did it at that age.

AH well....it wasn't me that walked in on our girl but her poor father. You should have seen the look on his face! Poor man. I had to sit him in a chair. Don't make a big deal out of it. Just set boundaries...like behind the shut door of their bedroom. We have rule in my house..KNOCK and wait to be told its ok to come in.

shes probably exploring her body and exploring, you don't say how old she is.....maybe it would be a good time to have the birds and bees talk if you havent already x

That kind of behavior is TOTALLY normal for a 2 year old. When my daughter was that age we just made a rule that she could only touch like that in her bedroom or during bath time. We didn't make a big deal out of it and she eventually out grew doing it. :)

No if she is in her room under the covers then no reason to tell her. She will probably get more a sense of modesty in the next few years or so anyway and shut and bolt the door.

If you talk to her about it, tell her that it's okay, you're not mad or upset...it's normal, but should be kept private...door shut...mostly to protect herself from potential embarrassment

My best friend's son started masturbating when he was very young. She was horrified and went straight to the pediatrician for guidance. She thought that perhaps he was doing it because he had been molested, however, the doctor told her it's normal for some kids to be curious and even at a young age to masturbate. He said they had to be careful about saying that it was wrong and he should not be doing it because it would cause issues when he got older. Talk to your pediatrician and go from there.
