Is it normal? For a person to sleep all the time and still be tired? I'm not sure

I have the same problem with my 15 year old daughter. But she doesn't stay up late. She usually wants to be in bed by 9pm and on weekends will sleep until i wake her up. Then she might do one or two things and complains about being tired again and wants to nap. My parents never let me sleep late into the morning. It was called 'sleeping the day away'. I'm hoping she's just lazy-i can get her out of that. I just worry something more may be wrong.

yes its normal for them to try to sleep that late. a study recently showed that their internal clocks are off. our clocks tell us we're sleepy usually around 10 or 11 theirs doesnt until 1 or 2 thats what causes that.

lol i can sleep till 11 :) ....my son is 15 and he always needed to sleep at least 10-12 hours just to function! he could barely walk into the bathroom in the morning if he was operating on just 7 hours lol good luck but teenagers do need more sleep then average.

yes. because for one thing most teenagers just love to stay up late. mine sometimes sleep later than 11am. and i know they are perfectly normal. and they do need more sleep than we realize

Yeah, it is normal. Also, if you let them wake up on their own on the weekends at least they will be much more pleasant to be around.

Yes! my 13 year old sleeps until 11:00 or 12:00 if it's not a school day - teen agers need a lot more sleep than we think - their bodies are changing, and their minds are always going try to figure things out and become their own person - plus, they stay up late, so, yeah, don't worry - perfectly normal:)

Its normal for teens to sleep longer and for sleep patterns to be different from time to time. SO many studies have shown that going through puberty reeks havoc on the bodies and the best way to get through all of it is sleep. There are also studies out there that say that a teenager learns best between the hours of 12-7. Something about their cognative thinking being more alert during those times. I just wish those studies were out when I was a teen and could have said soemthing to my parents about it.

It is so very normal for a teenager to sleep so much. My daughter is almost 16 & I have to wake her by 11am on weekends. Her doctor says its normal.

my daughter is 14 and no matter if she goes to bed at 9:00pm or 1:00am will sleep usually 10-15 hrs if we let her. She has always slept over 6-8 hrs.

Yes!!! Have you not read the recent medical studies that actually prove that teeneager need more sleep? That they operate badly in the mornings?
