my 11 year old daughter, Sara, had cramps last night and the next moring she was shocked to find blood in her pants. i told her it's ok and we went shopping that day but she kept saying her tummy hurts. i love her very much she is beautiful but her birthday is exactly 1 month away because she started may 2nd her birthday is june 2nd! what a surprise! do you have any suggestions of what i can do to cheer her up?

This is a magickal time in a young woman's life. It should not be embarassing, or "disgusting" as it seems to be for some. You are being given a blessed opportunity to grow close with one another on the same level -- that of womanhood. If you begin working on this cameraderie now, you will build a sisterhood that you will share and enjoy in the future.

Just make sure that your daughter has regular pain killer and a hot water bottle if it helps. Just because her periods have started this month it does not mean they will be regular straight away. They may be eratic for a while. Explain to your daughter all about periods and assure her that all women go through it and that she is not alone. make sure she has enough sanitary protection so she does not have to ask for it as she will feel very embarrassed at first. I think girls need to know why this happends to them and that they are not alone in this. Lets face it periods are horrid, it is just something we learn to live with.
As a mum we have to make sure that our daughters are not in pain. Periods can cause intense pain whilst they are getting established and can cause young girls to faint.
