Hello, my name is Chloe and I am 12 years old. I may not be a mom but I wanted a say in this exciting conversation. This is the 21st century and piercings and tattoos are becoming more and more common. As a parent you may feel quite protective of your child and feel body modifications are taboo or inappropriate, but I, personally, feel quite strongly about piercings and if my mom were not to let me have any piercings I would feel generally upset.

I understand where your daughter is coming from, as I too know how it feels to want something so badly because it gives you a chance to fit in. If it were my decision I would want her to wait until she is at least 13 but if you make her wait it gives her a chance to do it behind your back which is incredibly dangerous.

I cannot give you a decisive answer but I do believe that piercing are not something to be frowned upon - they are a way of expressing yourself and don't you want your daughter to be true to herself instead of bottling it up inside?

I thank you for reading. Regards Chloe

hello, my name is alexis I am 13 years old, i am not a mother but i saw tis question and i wanted to sign up to inform mothers about my horrifying belly button piercing experience.

It all started November 17th 2012 ( My 13th birthday). After begging and crying my parents finally let me get my belly button pierced. My mom took me to a nice reputable piercing/tattoo place. I got pierced and the pain was quite bad about a 8 out of 10. I cleaned it with H2ocean spray and all was fine until i went to a cheerleading competition and my coaches forced me to remove it. At that point I've only had my piercing for a week and the hole closed within 5 minutes of me preforming. A few months later I decided to re-pierce it. The needle went through scar tissue which made it hurt more ( 10 out of 10) the pain was terrible! I continued to clean it and I started to do warm sea salt soaks and everything was fine until I went on vacation and went in a chlorine pool. The chlorine dried out my piercing and made it hurt and hard to slide the jewellery. It began to bleed and ooze puss. Just recently I accidentally tugged my jewellery and now a boil has formed behind the piercing in my belly button. It is EXTREMELY painful and it stings very much.

I personally regret getting the piercing. I suggest waiting till 16 because our bodies are still growing and that can cause piercings to reject, stretch and migrate.

hey i know im not a mom but my name is hailey and im 12. my mom is letting me get my nose pierced when im 13. she said yes but my dad had to think about it and it took a lot of convincing but he finily said yes. i think 11 0r 10 is way to young but if you thinks she is ready yhen go right on ahead but i think she sould wait till 13 so give her time to think about it and if she still wants it let her get it. it is her body and she can decide what to do with it. but ask her tons of questions. make her do resurch thats what i did and so hope this helped
sincerly, hailey

I have seen as a mother of a 14 year old , have seen two 9 year olds . three 11 olds 1 ten year old, and five 13 year olds, they all had some type of body piercing that wasn't there ears.

My daughter is responsible. She researched all types of information about belly piecrings, wrote of essay and everything she even searched up what kind of cleanser to use ( she picked out H2Ocean and dr piercing aftercare ) and when a piecer tested her she got it all correct.

I lt ger have one because she proved herself. It completly healed in 3 months .

They want a piecring make them write an essay about it.

Okay,i'm not a mom. But I've wanted a lip piercing for about a year (Im 12). I feel if your daughter is responsible, she does enough research on it,and if she absolutely is sure she wants this, she should be able to get it. Maybe have her wait a week or two so you know she really wants it. But if you feel she shouldn't, sit her down, talk to her, and don't just say a flat out no, let her express her feelings, because if you just tell her no, then she might do it behind your back and also as a kid it is very upsetting to just be shot down. Sorry if i wasn't a help.

I love how a bunch of little girls come and post on a mom's site and try and tell the mom's how to parent. @@ This is why children should not have unsupervised internet access... lol

My girls, most likely, will get no piercings other than a single ear piercing under 18. I can't say for 100% sure yet, but I still have a 12 year old who doesn't even have that yet. ;)

Ok well first if all I'm 13 now and I'm begging to have one RIGHT NOW my parents are still thinking about it but she says maybe... I hope it's a yes every girl just wants to fit in and I feel that if I was to get my belly pierced that I would! Even as a young girl I think that under age 13 is WAY too young to have a belly button piercing and remember if ur daughter dosent like it or dosent want there piercing after a few months/year then it's just skin and it will grow over eventually!!!!
And if I were a parent I would let my daughter have it at 13 if she wanted it :) hope this helps! Wish me luck

i think that kind of piercing id for the older people cause it can lead to sexaul things cause she's gonna show it off or start wearing shorter shirts to show how cool things are so no i would wait

I think the only reason she wants it is because other kids have it. It is most likely just a stage, my daughter and I agreed that she could get her nose pierced on her 16th birthday and when her birthday came around she didn't even want it anymore(which was fine with me)! Try to make I deal with her set an age that you think is appropriate and if she still wants it, then you can think about it.

[deleted account]

Well im not a mom but if you get your nose pireced or your belly button piercerd or any part of your body bit your ears it will go away

And im 11 years old and im getting my nose done this spring and my mom allways says pericing before tattos like my mom will let me get any part of my body peirced but sertain areas im not allowed and a child over the age of ten cane get a tatto bub both of your parents have to be there and they have to sing a form

But i say no tattos till im older because i could want a butterfly on my arm and get it but later on if i dont want it anymore iy cost 50,000$ just to remove it

And chlids aid mite take you away from your home becaus they think there parents would be retards

So i say to l the moms

PERCING BEFOR TATTOS

I agree with you, I wouldn't let my daughters get anything other than their ears pierced until they were 18 & out on their own then what they do they have to live with. As far as I know the ears is the only thing pierced and they are 27 & 29

Sorry, that's wrong, ears years but belly button's noway , not until 16. What's going on with some parents letting their girls grow up to quickly. I live in Italy & kids from the age of 12 with parents consent can have tattoos, that's stupid, adults regret having them so how can a kid know what they really want.

[deleted account]

I think ears are ok at that age, but body piercing should only be done when they can legally get it done without parental consent (19 where I'm from!). I just don't think kids that age can properly take care of body piercings and the consequences of not taking care of it are just too dire for a child

Wow, I guess to me piercing of the ears was at age 5 and everything else they needed to be 16 or more. I didn't get my ear pierced until 13 and the second holes at 16 and then bully button (which I don't have anymore) 32. Some of the piercings out there are better than other but I do believe that piercings are better than them asking of a tattoo early like my son did at 13.

They all want to grow up too fast and when they are older they wish they could be a kid again...This is scarey to me. I have a 9 yr old daughter and the most she will be getting is her ears pierced again.

10 is waaaay too young for body piercings. I was in my late 20s when I got my belly button pierced and it HURT!!! It bled and was tender for a few days. I did it for the heck of it. My belly never shows, so nobody even knows I have it pierced. My daughter wouldn;t even think of asking to do that!! She is 10 now and still doesn't have her ears pierced

I wouldn't allow it at 10 either and I have and I'm a tattooed and pierced mom. I think 10 is far too young. My daughter wants it done and she is nearly 14. She has to wait until she is 18 for her belly button and at least 16 for her nose. Just my opinion.

I think the same way about a 10 yr old getting her belly pierced. My youngest daughter is almost 12 now and she wouldnt get one, even if she begged me to allow it.
My two oldest daughters got their bellys pierced when they were like 14.But i must say, that they never weared short shirts or sweaters to show it off or to look sexy.

My daughter has her ears pierced ( she got them done when she was like 6) She is now 12 and wants to get her nose pierced and have just a tiny stud put in. I'm trying to convince her to get second holes in her ears for now. I actually don't mind the ears and nose on younger kids BUT, the belly button or anything else...Hell No!! I do have several piercings and Tattoo's myself, but most of them I got after I was 18. I did get my belly done at 16 (then they didn't really care who signed for you) and my first tattoo a month before I turned 18 (I knew a guy that did tattoo's). My mom never knew until I showed her, and boy was she mad..Lol. There are certain things I will allow her to do and some I won't and she really doesn't argue with me on it because she knows that there is nothing she can do about it because I would have to sign for her.

Wtf, I'm sure that is illegal! It is in MI and GA, I know that for a fact. I am pierced and tatted but hell to the no! Over my cold dead body would my baby get her naval pierced. We might talk about nose around 15 or 16, depending on grades and such. I got 98% of my piercings and all my tats after 18 yrs old.

Hi Stacey I have a daughter just shy of 14 she got her ears pierced at christmas and I just took her and got her a nose piercing last month, she thinks belly button piercings look like a prostitute which is just fine with me... I think I would rather be the one to make the suggestions as opposed to her going behind our back and getting it done possibly for cheap and by someone who has no idea what they are doing and end up with an infection... Just my 2 cents...

Practically speaking- ten year olds are just learning how to take more responsibility for their own personal hygeine, and a belly ring requires even more care to avoid infection... eww.

Ear piercing, no problem. Body piercing, absolutely not. Stretching their earlobes into big holes, absolutely not. If they are 18 and have a job, and can pay for it themselves. Fine. Hopefully by then this trend will be over. I feel the same way about coloring their hair. If they can afford the upkeep of the color AFTER they turn 18, and are self sufficient, then they can do it.

I have to say that these other girls are to young myself. The rule at my house is if you can not get it done by your self without mom and dad saying yes then you should not be getting it done. But sit down with your child and have a long talk with her about what is okay and not okay in your home. The main thing is to have a long talk with her about the folly of those girls decisions. She needs to know that it is not okay with you until she is 18 or older.

Oh no! That is way to young - earings maybe, but a belly button piercing is a very grown up almost sexual thing that older girls have with hipster jeans and crop tops! Stick to ear piercing, that's more tame! Good Luck

I have a 10 yr old and 10 is WAY to young if you ask me. Grant it I do have several piercings myself, but that is too young. Our youth is over sexed and under educated. My daughter does have her ears pierced 2x and is getting her 3rd for her birth day this month!. But a belly ring O HECK NO!!! lol Maybe you could convince her to do her ears?!? Good luck.
