Hi moms,



My daughter is almost 11 years old and she had her first period last December 2011. My daughters period was regular for 3 months but from March 2012 ,she is having an irregular period. Her period started March 3 and it stayed for 8/9 days and then 8/9 days off and then started again and she still is having her period without stopping. I am very worried about this. Please let me know if anyone of you is having same experience with your daughter like me, and I appreciate any advise from you.

My 14 yr old has been irregular since her first period which was about a year or so ago. it comes at various intervals...every 2 wks..sometimes 3. It last for a 7-10 days....she gets alot of pain,etc. I took her to the gyn who said she may regulate with age or they can give her birth control pills to regulate it, I opted for time!

I agree with taking her to the doctors. It's supposed to be "irregular" at that age, but that sounds drastic. Maybe it's something hormonal.

Aww poor thing. Well I really have no different advice - just take her to the doctor. Which you already did.

Thank you Angela. Actually, we already did all the blood tests and 1 ultrasound and the result came out normal. But, still she just got a little bit of spotting from today after 2 days off. Her doctor will send her to a specialist soon.

Irregular periods are quite common in menstruating females of all ages. Also remember that a "regular" period isn't necessarily always 28 days. I thought mine were irregular right through my teens and then starting counting the days and checking the calendar - they were VERY regular - but came every 39 days!



During the first 3 years after periods start they are likely to be irregular anyway. They can stop altogether for several months for no apparent reason.



However, I appreciate that 8 or 9 days menstruation followed by 8 or 9 days break then 8 or 9 days menstruation again must be worrying and certainly inconvenient. Check out with the doctor or practice nurse at your local surgery. Also this weblink may be helpful:

I would take her to the Dr. and have her checked out. I could be any number of things. But for your peace of mind and your daughter's health I would take her to the Dr.

I had a very irregular period until I was 16, but it took many doctors visits and even a low dose birth control for a year for it to regulate. Most likely it will even out (I missed a lot of periods when I first started and had month-2 month long ones). I expect my daughter's will be the same. Knowing family history really helps, the doctor usually asks about it.

I would totally take her to the dr. at her age irregularity is usually missing or really short there might be something going on that isn't right definitely get her checked out.
