Hi everyone. I am a mother of an 13 year old girl and 11 year old boy. We have recently began having problems with lying about everything and then coping a smart mouth when we get caught lying. I dont know what to do. I have tried everything- grounding, taking privleges, spanking - nothing works. They know I know they are lying but they do it anyway - and when I get onto them, they develop this attitude and smart mouth. Any advice?

Maybe if you turned the tables on them they might understand the other side of lying. Maybe try it on them and see if they appreciate being lied to, but let them know after the fact that it was to teach them a lesson. We dont want to encourage this behavior in our children. Try lying about something that wont endanger them but will make them feel like you betrayed them.

Hi Kristy,
I have a 13 yo daughter too. And a 16 yo son. In my experience, I'm finding that it's not really lying (with the girl) but not telling me the whole story - leaving things out. I don't have that issue with my son. My daughter is an eye roller, grunts her answers and generally not too fun to be around. My sweet daughter has been hijacked by hormones, I guess.
