Hi there!
Not sure exactly what age is the right age, but i do recomend maybe seeking out a mediator? Very helpful and they have the ability to weed out all the crummy stuff and stick to the issue. Depending on the childs age i would imagine that their opinion and reasons for choosing one parent over the other would be considered.
