I just got married a month ago. My husband has two kids, Erik and Shay [nickname.] Erik gets along fine with me and my only biological child, Evan. But Shay will not comminicate with me at all! She spends all her time out with friends or doing something in her room. Whenever I try and start a conversation, she makes an excuse to leave the room, what should I do? I'd really like to get to know her but she won't give me a chance to.

She sounds like a regular girl to me. It's hard when they get older cuz all the hormones kick in. So my advice is to be patient. YOU can't rush it. keep trying and I know it's hard but if you just keep trying to include her eventually she will see it.
