My daughter started her period. Im so sad. She hasnt had sex ed yet. I had a funny feeling about a month ago and had a talk with her about what may happen. Last friday she started. I am afraid of other kids finding out and picking on her, Her backpack hook is in the hallway and kids have been stealing from the backpacks. So Im afraid they will find pads. Im so unhappy bout this. How do I deal with this? I bought her a American Girl book that talks about the body. But How do I keep this private? I let her teacher know she has started.

If you act like it is sad and shameful, she will pick up on those feelings and think that is is sad and shameful to have her period. It is a normal part of life, so treat it as such. Can she maybe carry a purse with her in the class? If not, since her teacher knows, why not let the teacher hold the pads at her desk, and your daughter can get them from her? Try to be positive about your daughter becoming a young woman, or she may take a negative attitude about it all.

My 9yo daughter has been real moody lately. She gets so mad at a drop of the hat. I have sat down with her and talked with her about periods and what to expect. But I am wanting to know if anyone can give me advice on the time frame of how much longer before she begins. Her boobs have really blossomed in the last two weeks. She hasn't started growing any hair in the pubic area or under her arms. Can anyone please give me advice on how long it takes after the moodiness starts.

Its sounds shocking that more and more girls are having their periods younger these day.My daughter always knew about my periods, she is 9, when she was younger i just said that all women got a periods (bloody bum we used to call it for years).I just said it cleaned out the tummy incase a egg ever decided to grow in there. Now that her friend Molly who is 10 got hers i thought she would be worried she would get her soon but she has been so good to molly about it..Ive sat down with my daghter about a month ago with books about how our bodies work, she had a good giggle at some of the names though..Anyway she knows its all normal and part of been a woman.I suppose me and my friends are so open about these things the kids are not freaked out by it all..talk to other parents you will be really suprised how many girls in her school are after starting their periods. Also talk to the teacher about your fears of other kids picking on her, she might let you know that your little one is not the only one going through all this change in class..Be positive and open.Kids have to many hang ups these days without worring about something that is natural.

She will be ok about it if you are.

My daughter has not started yet but I bought her a book called whats happening to my body. I started reading it with her and let her ask questions. It explains about puberty and her body
