Hi, wondering if anyone has any good suggestions? my 6 year old will not sleep in his room, he has to go to sleep in my room or I have to sit with him in his room until he is asleep. I have triedputting soft music on in his room, I have stuck glow in the dark stars on his roof ect. He will lie there until 10ish and then when I go to bed he will end up coming in my room anyway What else can I do to encourage him to go to sleep in his own room and stay there the whole night?

Hi Stina, Thankyou so much for responding. I will definately try the sticker chart and being a little bit more firm. It is actually starting to affect my marraige now so I really have to do something about it. I must say you sound like a really together kind mother. good on you! I will let you know it goes. Thanks again

It sounds like you have a very gentle approach to parenting wich is great... however at 6 yo, it's ok to toughen up- consider it practice now before the teen years when things get really tough.

- when your son gets out of bed, return him, say goodnight and walk away. When he gets out of bed again, return him to bed again. Repeat till he stays. It will take a while the first night(s) but by the end of the week, hopefully you will be able to simply ask him to return to his own bed.

- Figure out a way to reward him for staying in his own bed.

I have a calendar for my son and for each day he meets his goals, I give him a sticker. After a week of stickers, he gets something special. I also give him coupons so he can watch a show on TV. It's worked very well. Our goal this month is for him to make his bed every day. Less than a week into the month and today he made his bed without being asked.

for your son, when he gets up in the morning after an entire night of remaining in his bed, make a big deal about it and put a sticker on his chart- talk about what it is he is working for after a week of staying in his bed all night.
