Whinning

My daughter is a really big whiner. I do ignore her until she can talk to me like a big girl. Unfortunately like Leslie I think this is part of my daughter's personality because she has been doing it since she was 18 months. Hope it ends soon!

I absolutly agree! I tell my son that I can't understand him when his voice is like that and he can come talk to me when he's done whinning. The WORST thing you can do is get invloved in a argument with your five year old. So stand firm and do not talk to him intill hes stopped the whinning

Days? My son is turning 6 on tue. and still whines, whines, whines! I'm starting to think it's just a part of his personality trait! If you can find the secret about stopping whines- let me know-

I tell my daughter "I can't understand what you're saying when you use that voice; please use your nice voice" if she's whining for something, I tell her "please ask nicely" or "please ask properly". If she keeps it up I repeat I can't understand her, and walk away.

the whining makes me crazy to!! My 5 yr old daughter is suddenly never satisfied with anything and doing exactly what your son does--and now my 1 1/2 yr old daughter is starting it!!!!!!!! I try to ignore it also! I like the idea of saying the ears don't understand it-I'm trying that next!

I tell my son that my ears can't understand whining. Then he remembers that I'm not going to respond to whining and he changes his tone quickly. Then we both start laughing because he knows he was whining and KNOWS how to speak in a normal voice.

I do the same as Carly. Ignore him when he is whining, but tell him that you will be ready to listen to him when he can talk to you like a big boy. It does work.

Yuck,I can't stand the whining!!!! And they do it until they're like 16!!! I saw a teenage girl in the mall a few days ago whining to her dad about her cell phone. Bleh. What I do is tell my daughter once to can it, and if she keeps it up I ignore her completely until she can speak to me in a normal voice. Does the trick. And don't give in!!! Been there and done that!!! MISTAKE that I am now paying for!!! We don't want our kids to be like that 16 year old!!!
