My August 2006 son comes home from his Dad's almost every week saying a different rude word. Over the last few weeks I've been called a "little bastard", been told to "piss off", been called a "nigga" and a "gook".
I've said something to his father a number of times, but when I do I'm made out to be the bad guy. He says that our son knows what's naughty and does it for attention, but I can't help thinking that if he didn't hear those words, he wouldn't say them!
I know 4 yr olds are like sponges and pick up everything, that's why I try to be careful with what I say, but I don't use those words at all, let alone around him.
His dad said that the other (older) kids call the cat a "nigga". What kind of example is that setting for our son, and the other kids for that matter??
I'm interested to know what other mums think. How can I nip this in the bud now, before it gets worse? I can punish my son by washing his mouth with soap, but what's the point if he's not discouraged from using bad language when he's not at home with me?
