How do I stop him biting??

My 3 1/2 year old has taken to biting his older brother and sister, even me and hubby a couple of times recently. My elder two both bit a little when younger but this was quickly resolved by a sharp bite back from me (I know some of you may disagree with this - but its a sure fire solution! - well until recently) 3 1/2 yr old used to bite when he was 2 and grew out of this stage pretty quickly, but for some reason he has started again. We are thinking it's an attention thing - we recently got a puppy and maybe he feels like he needs to compete? Has anyone got any ideas on solving this?? I have already biten him 3-4 times (which I hate) have timed him out etc, but he really just doesn't seem to care.

I would also pay less attention to him when he bites and put more focus on the child/person who was bit.

Also, praise all you can when he does make right choices.

I recently read in Parent's Magazine (I think) that most of the time it is for attention. You tell him that it hurts and then you put him in a room alone or put him in time out, but try not to make a big fuss about it. If you walk away from him and don't pay attention to him, then it teaches him that biting doesn't get any attention (good or bad) from you. If he bites someone else, then pay more attention to the person that was bit instead. It's a long shot, but it may work.
