My little boy has actively made the decision to not use the potty. I had him running around with nothing on the other day and he did a wee on the carpet, I said 'No, you do wee in the potty' He said 'No, I do wee in nappies' He had previosly been to his nannys for a holiday and she had sat him on the potty all morning. They eventually had to go out, so she put a nappy on him, and he promptly did a wee, which I think shows a level of control.

I am planning to let him go to pre-school for a couple more weeks and see the little boys using the toilet(well leaving the room to use it anyway) and then removing nappies. I do have 30 pairs of pants for him.

Just wanted to know if anyone had any other ideas or thoughts.

I potty trained my 4 year old for almost 2 years. Nothing worked! Finally, his cousin started preschool and he wanted to also so I told him only big boys go to school and if he was still wearing pull ups he couldn't go. Once he was motivated, he did it within a week and doesn't even wear pull ups to bed anymore. He had an accident on Thanksgiving, he said he "forgot" he needed to pee until it was too late, but that was the first one in 7 months.

put him in underwear with plastic pants over them (might take some searching). He'll pee in them for 2 days and then get tired of the wet uncomfortable feeling and use the potty. You will have to change him as soon as he pees but the house, furniture, and car will not all get wet. Our boy took 2 days of it and then was perfectly potty trained no diaper no pull up... only underwear from then on. let me know how it goes.

My guy was potty trained in December and he also didn't use a potty seat. We had 2 different ones and he didn't like them. In the end he went with a stool and the regular toilet. He peed without a problem but with #2 I had to watch him for signs he had to go and then brought him to the toilet to go. He was reluctant at first but what really helped was telling him other kids and cartoon charactors that used the potty. I would say c'mon let's go on the potty like Elmo (Elmo's Potty DVD) or Caillou or like his 3 older cousins. He was pretty easy and has only had one accident since! Good luck, it takes time and self confidence is key!!!

My sonny boy was potty trained at 2 yrs ....we got him different potties but he thought it was a toy ...then he chose an attachment and there was no looking back he loved the way we clapped when he did potty in the big people potty and we would take him to piss every half an hour and if he did we all (my parents, brother, help anybody) clapped. so i guess public recognition works!!!!

Hi Tracy! I haven't made any updates until recently. Well if u haven't read our recent post, i have some news for ya! Noah is still in pull ups! he also sleeps with me and refuses to sleep in his own bed! I'm trying my best as a single parent. It's very challenging @ times. Now, Noah lets me know when has to do #2. He never does the #2 in his pull ups ne more. So that's a huge step for us because the last time I posted he was still doing the stinky potta(as he calls it) in his pull up. He will tell u he has to wee wee if he's not busy with something or playing other than that the pull ups r still heavily loaded w/wee wee water! I'm proud of him because he is trying his best. I hear that little boys r harder to potty train than little girls! We just have to keep working w/our kids and hopefully he'll grasp the concept soon!

My three year old absolutely hated the potty, we bought him all kinds of different potty's; the classic style, the ones that make noises, the ones that look like a real toilet etc but he would have none of it, in the end I just bought a small toilet seat for the proper toilet and we have never looked back! He loves going to "the big boy toilet" Although he still wears a nappy to bed he almost never wets his pants during the day, it took us about 2 days to "train" him!

My three year old is on and off with the potty training. He goes most of the time on the potty, #1 and #2 (because I let him pick out a small toy from a reward bag when he does #2), but then sometimes, he will just go in his underwear! And I've caught him mid-pee or poo a few times, and I can tell he knows what he's doing, bc he's stopped playing and is concentrating on that. He sleeps in a diaper still, and wakes up most mornings dry, so why then these accidents? I try to explain to him he isn't allowed to go in his underwear anymore, and my daycare provider told me I should take a toy away everytime he goes in them, and then he has to earn them back by going in the potty. Any advice on getting through to him about the accidents?

We potty trained my 3 year old by first putting him on the potty backwards, we also threw cheerios in the potty so he could try to wee on the targets in the potty. Being backwards also allowed him the comfort to start standing (much to my dismay) to wee. Hope this might help you.

I am trying to toilet train my 3 year old boy. He is happy to sit on the toilet but he hasn't done a wee or poo in there much yet. I use a sticker chart. He gets 1 sticker for trying and 2 if he does something in the toilet. At the end of the line he gets a reward.
I give him lots of encouragement and praise too. He has done a wee in the toilet a few times. Sometimes he will tell us if he wants to go to toilet but most of the time he doesn't do anything. I just keep encouraging him to go to the toilet. He will get it eventually.

Quoting Ja Dana:

I have a three year old son and I've been trying to potty train him since he was about 18 months old. Noah usually has no problem doing # one in the potty, however when it's time for #2, he sometimes tells me and sometimes he doesn't!
Noah has been consistant on occassion about #2! I sit him on the potty, he tells me to get out of the bathroom and he'll call me when he's done. I do just that and when he's done, I get him cleaned up and he's usually rewarded.
On occassion, Noah gets missing (he usually goes to his bedroom)! All I hear is complete silence. He'll then reappear and say mommy I'm a stanky potta minutes after watching Elmo's Potty Time!
I'd like to hear some of the Circle of Moms community feedback. Do any of u have any suggestions?

how about a reward chart? lots of positive reinforcement when he goes properly, disappointment when he doesn't...we used a sticker chart and he got a gummy at the end of a row. lots of praise and happy dances when he succeeds!

Aw bless, standing to do no2!! My little one has started preschool and will be doing 4 mornings a week. I have decided we are doing it on the half term hols and I will have a lot of laundry. I did this with my daughter in a weekend but this was because she had started taking her nappy off and using the toilet at preschool. My boy hasn't done this, so I was a bit hesitant. Going to go for it now, thank you!!

Hi there i have 3 boys and each has been different in potty training.

my first , now 9yo, used to just run around with no nappy on and i encouraged him to go to the toilet or to go outside and wee,,, but if he went to the potty/ toilet instead of outside he got rewarded

the next now 4 almost 5 , was much the same but preferred to go outside, but it came to the holidays b4 he started preschool where they couldn't have nappies , that i just kept encouraging him to use the toilet evry couple of hours then got to a point where he didn't want em to put his nappy back on

Then with the now 3yo he was potty trained about 12 months ago,,, he got a very severe case of the chicken pox and scratched one on his hip that bled into itself and so it was painful for him to have a nappy on so although i had a bit of washing to do the first week he was pretty easy ( although this option isn't recommended)LOL, Although it was quite funny when he went to toilet and i went in to see if he was ok and he was "standing at the toilet, straining to do number 2 " was hilarious !
