I have a 16 month old with food allergies. The allergiest also thinks he isn't digesting some of his food properly. We see a GI doctor but he doesn't seem to concerned with it and says it is allergies. The GI doctor is more concerned about finding him a milk or formula that he can tolerate. He is allergic to milk and the other milks we have tried gives him diarrhea. If anyone knows how to determine if it is malabsorption and if there is anything you can do for it. I would greatly appreciate any help I can get with this.

We started to see a naturopathic doctor for a second opinion with my nephew, he was loosing a little weight and had severe eczema along with food allergies including milk. My sister nurses him still so we don't have to worry about formula however the naturopathic doctor gave us some supplements to help strengthen his immune/ digestive system. I hope you find some answers, I wish you the best of luck.

What formulas have you tried? What other milks?

My son is severely allergic to milk and had a ana rxn to Nutramigen because it is derived from milk. He did well on Elecare and I have also heard that Neocate works as well. If he has a very bad dairy allergy you may want to try either of those or just get some rice milk and supplement his diet with calcium and higher fatty things (like olive oil or bacon). Also, be sure to watch out for sneaky ingredients like butter, whey and casein as they can be found in a lot of foods.

I hope that helps a little. Milk allergies are tough!
