Side effects of Nutramigen

My son has a dairy allergy. We have had him on soy formula for a while now, but we're not so sure that he doesn't have an allergy to that as well. We are trying him on Nutramigen to see what happens. My question may sound silly, but I am wondering what to expect as far as his bowel movements. On the soy, he only has them maybe every other day or two. I have heard a side effect of Nutramigen is diarrhea. I am just wondering what I should be looking for and what should be normal, because the two formulas (soy vs. nutramigen) apparently have total opposite effects on their stomachs. Thanks!

Hmmmm I'm not sure if this will help but my son's been on Nutramigen for 5 months and though most his poops are soft I don't think he's had any diarrhea because of it. But I feed him fruits to help keep everything moving. I'll take a soft poo over constipation any day! LOL

It's good to know though that soy may constipate since I just started weaning him off the formula onto regular soy milk since he's almost a year old. Guess we'll see what happens. Good Luck

My daughter was on Nutramigen due to milk allergy and GERD and she didn't have diarrhea with it. He bowel movements have always been on the extremely soft side but we had no problems with the Nutramigen.
Good luck.

My baby has been on nutramigen since she was 1 month old she's now 4 months and still on it and her bowel movements are very watery and color green since she's been drinking this stinky formula but she's doing very good, no more blood in her stool and no more crankiness!

My daughter ( 5 months) is on Nutramigen and her stools can be runny, seedy and green and smelly (similar to breast fed stools apart from teh colour) - this seems to be quite usual for her though. I have only just started introducing solids to her diet and am seeing a slight change in her motions but they are still very much of the more liquid type - sounds grim doesn't it?

My daughter has a protein allergy. She was on Nutramigen and still had diarrhea b/c she was still allergic to the formula. In Nutramigen the protein is only partially digested which is your child has a protien allergy his systems will problem will clear up for a few days and then return. They had to put my daughter on prescription formula Elecare where all of the amino acids are completely broken down into single strains.
